[BOYS PLANET] EPISODE 1

[BOYS PLANET] EPISODE 1

Comments

Thank god I am not the only one who thought Han Yu Jin's face looks similar to Back Koo Young. Yu Jin has been known as Back Koo Young's son in the show. Many people may have not liked how harsh BKY was on Yu jin but I always saw it as a father being more strict with his son , like BKY wanted Yu jin to do even better so to push him he was harsher on him.

Hi, btw do you know Sung hanbin from ZB1 is hosting World Street Woman Fighter.

Pratiksha Majee

That would 1000% make a routine more unstable if you made the choices because of numbers and then have some people pulled. Boo to that!

Jessica Holyfield

i haven’t seen this mentioned yet, but from what i’ve heard, the group that performed Shine had very little time to practice because 3 of the people who were originally in that group were not able to perform at the audition. don’t get me wrong, it was still unstable, but it does sound a lot better in the practice video with all 6 members. there was no reason given as to why those 3 couldn’t perform.

Hanbin wasn‘t a dancer for ONF, the song he performed here. He „just“ did one Wanna One Performance, BTS MMA Dionysus Performance and MV + Performances of an Be‘o song as a supporting dancer so far we know. Beyond that he was more active teaching dance classes, being part of dance crews (under Spella, Babyzoo and as a part of an all male waacking group) and participating in a few battles.

I started watching the show because of 김지웅 Kim Ji-woong (knew him from acting and knew he was an idol before that). (ZEROBASEONE) The rest of my favourites were: - 하루 Haru (XLOV). - 박도하 Bak Do Ha - the guy in the blue shirt (now listed as a Cube Entertainment actor, had a few small roles, I want to see him much more!) - 김태래 Kim Tae-rae (ZEROBASEONE) - 금준현 Kum Junhyeon (TIOT) - 박관영 Park GwanYoung (posts covers on YouTube and signed with Modenberry Korea as a model on the 31st of January) - but he sings so well that I hope he can develop further in this! - 윤종우 Yoon Jong-woo (ONE PACT)

ngl, I forgot how long these episodes are like omgggggg and we haven’t even made it past audition which is half of episode 2 and still we have the signal song audition like let’s get to the stages idk, I’m so impatient when it comes the the audition process.

"the sound effects on this show". yeah, and the constantly repeating shots from different angles... episodes would be about 2/3 of the length without all of them 😂 people around that time were also quite harsh about some G group trainees, but later it'll also be shown a bit, that a lot of these 'trainees' haven't really trained long or at all even. they have completely different background than most K group trainees which along with language difference put G group already at a disadvantage. I also hated it when in some groups focus was on 1 or 2 members. with the rush hour duo the only really showed Jay, while Kamden had basically no screen time or mention. and fun fact: Gyuvin is a major fanboy of San and they actually met on a show of KODE on youtube and it's the cutest thing ever (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1HuljD6Xi0) blue house/red house became such a meme, but I really ended up rooting for both of them to improve during the show.

As for content prior to the show. They did do a bunch of promos. I'll link playlists in case you want to check any of them out either as a reaction or on your own time: 1 min self introductions https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLo_YJGc_erY2Ki-1dTTjD75Nmc6cfUN4T&si=Mse6gGTnYr2WiqzR Mystery box/ghost prank (my personal favorite): https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLO2dcHJtXJ4dweSog38WNwPMZA3--R9Q8&si=GT-rLtjFmIhhBG36 eye contact/pedometer challenge: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL00HTTmyu9kkaavfT-D6KAk48ITWyHK4g&si=PcR8GdGl1v-1ZocT Alchol free cocktail challenge: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLO2dcHJtXJ4fsoSlP_MKbqASLR1_i9KhJ&si=plAiSQnrgzphHD9Q And here the individual Fancams of "Here I Am" performance from each trainee :https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE4EHwao_mekB81rHOKQ0TH6aWwE21qdF

he was also in a group before, so he probably had a few fans still supporting him since then.

Maya

a lot of trainees also have big amount of pre debut content like covers, performances, practices and that helps. (mother hanbin going viral on twitter several times lol)

Maya

One of the reasons I was at least paying attention to BP when it started airing is cause an actor I had seen in some BL dramas was a contestant. So yeah when you asked who had like established fans beforehand, I would say Kim Jiwoong definitely did from that. I think most BL fans were worried about how Jiwoong was gonna get portrayed or treated here, that was why I was paying some attention to it when it was airing.

Elizabeth Seravello

regarding Hanbin's editing, they already released the signal song before 1st episode and Hanbin did REALLY well up to that point. So I wonder if these episodes were edited later or re-edited after seeing him in the signal song. I'd guess that is what has happened. And well, he's great, seeing him in BP, zb1 content, fan-signs etc., he really is a great guy and he is very talented and hard working so the amount of screen time doesn't really bother me. (it's just a shame that we have so many trainees and some pop up in ep 3 and I'm like: "i literally see you for the first time", but that's how every produce season works unfortunately)

Maya

Yea i understand that this specific instance wasn’t a huge deal because it didn’t change the situation but the point is, it’s an example of MNET copy paste something from a different situation (ex a different performance) to work the narrative they want. I’m not saying this is the one thing MNET did that was terrible and they should be condemned for it, it’s just the easiest one to point out because they definitely do this A lot and trainees and mentors have gotten hate for how they react on shows like this.

Secretninja312 (Tina)

My Top 9 after seeing the star level test was: Kim Taerae, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Mun Junghyun, Park Hanbin, Kum Junhyeon, Yoo Seungeon, Zhanghao, Keita.

Zerose777

Finally Boys Planet, as you can see on my username and pfp, I literally had to bet my life for Seok Matthew to debut in this show. Im not sure if you missed it but Matthew's first rank here was 35th.

howltthew

I don’t see that as a big deal because it still fits the situation. If it was something that had nothing to do with it, then sure. That’s like the whole MR Beast situation when people are harping on him having CGI, when that’s the most mild thing ever in comparison to everything else.

Zerose777

So I don’t know who exactly had a fanbase beforehand. But Mnet did release content on YouTube for all the contestants before airing on tv. This includes the performance of the signal song (and the fancams of each trainee from this performance), a 1 minute pr video for each trainee where they get to introduce themselves and they uploaded challenges that the contestants did.

MMol

I'd say the first two episodes and then the analysis

breanna

Prime example of MNET Cut&Paste (yes this deserves its own comment) 1:43:58 we are currently watching Bak Doha (Blue House) perform and you see this reaction shot but look at who is in the left of the frame (right side of Onestar's ear) in that bright blue shirt. Is Bak Doha reacting to his own performance?!?! lol

Secretninja312 (Tina)

Yay! never clicked on a notification SO FAST *I'm adding to this while I watch. So Wake One, if you don't know, is under the same parent company as MNET (CJ E&M) they actually sent 10 trainees total to this show, 5 that were "K-group" (the 2nd group that walked in), 3 that were "G-group" and then Cha Woongki & Oh Sungmin, who are technically K-groups, came in as a separate duo because they were former TO1 members. The #1 seat is cursed. From the survival shows I've watched with this format. Whoever is the last person to sit in the #1 seat (when all the trainees come in and the mentors are introduced), in this case it's Hui, won't debut. Most don't even make it to the finals. So if it were me, I'll sit in any seat but the #1. Might pop my butt down for a second to feel it out, but I'm not stay there lol. I think Ricky went viral prior to the show airing because of his promo video where he said the "young and rich" line which is why a lot of people, even ones who didn't watch the show, knew of him. Plus it helps that he has a very distinct face. But you are right about how often certain guys are shown vs how high they were ranking. Though at this point of the show, most of the rankings were from preshow content (they released each trainee's promo video, a mystery box challenge with each trainee, and a bunch of other varitey show like segments on youtube) and they did like an in person event. I think MNET may have taken some of the preshow rankings in to consideration when they decided who to push. Like, yes Hanbin got his own nice solo shot but he already was at the top of the rankings in votes prior to the show airing. But you will see how certain trainees are highlighted but then stop getting those highlights while others start getting more. It's not a perfect MNET control (as much as they want it to be) but it does play a part in how people voted. But also, SBS also did this on Universe League too, certain guys were definitely more focused on vs others. Like, whenever Rhythm team is shown, they almost always show the same 5 or 6 (JL, Steven, Shauibo, Juwon, Chih En, and daisuke) but you don't see the 6th or 7th person that's in the starting group for each performance. Basically this isn't just an MNET specific tactic, all survival shows on all stations do this. MNET is just more known because they produced the most survival shows. But try to keep tabs on non ZB1 members too because there's quite a few, who do get highlighted but don't make it in. And Gunwook actually recieved some heat for how he was portrayed in the first few episodes. Some people saw him as being confident but a lot of people also saw it negatively and kinda like "get off your high horse" kid. I love that you pointed out how they let the guys speak in their own native language and that it was to show the diversity in G-group. And you are 100% right on that because they were trying real hard to push this whole K vs G concept in the begining that I think they probably asked the G-group trainees to speak their native language even though a lot of them could speak Korean. For YueHua K vs G. I'm pretty sure it was G-group who had to change their song. I believe Ollie said it in a livestream that they were originally doing NCT Dream Beatbox. As for where they are now, Brian debuted in Ampers&One and Ollie went on to compete on a Hong Kong survival show and debuted in their project group LOONG9. How these groups are broken down for the star level tests is, K-group are broken down by company, so same company trainees perform together. G-group, most of them are broken down by where they're from So USA is Jay & Kamden, both are under different Korean companies but MNET teamed them up to form the USA Team. The only G-groups to perform as their company name is Yuehua and Wakeone because both sent a bunch of trainees. So even though WakeOne's Min is Thai, he didn't perform with the Thailand group. Same with Yuehua's Brian, he's also Canadian but since he was uner Yuehua, he performed with his company team instead of with Matthew. 100% agree on the vocals vs dance for Kpop groups. I do think the past few generations, especially later 3rd gen and 4th gen, the focus of idol groups seemed to have shifted from vocals with some dance to more dance crew that also happens to sing. The choreographies have gotten way more complex and the focus of the groups have been a lot on the dance, synchronization, and formation. I think part of it may be because fans demand it, but also I think in terms of production and filming, you can always lipsync or overlay the studio recordings to coverup any vocal mistakes, it's harder to cover up dance mistakes, so they seemed to put more focus on groups getting their choreo perfect rather than the singing. BUT, I do see it shifting back to vocal centric more recently. I feel like a lot of people are noticing the vocals more and talking about how groups aren't singing like they did in 2nd gen and you see the mentors on the show commenting about that too so I wouldn't be suprised if we start seeing groups debuting with more vocal focuses again.
