update: new scripted video in progress

in addition to the first cut uploaded today, I also wanted to update you all on what's happening on the scripted video front. in summary: stuff.

the current script is about the best used soundtracks in gaming. not just the soundtrack with the best songs, but the soundtrack used most effectively (whatever that may mean). I've been rolling the idea around in my head for a little bit and finally got fingers to keyboards on it about a week ago, and I'm liking where it's going.

the basic idea is to highlight some moments in games where the soundtrack really enhanced the experience (beyond just having a nice song playing in the background, that is). if anything jumps immediately to your mind after hearing that (and if it isn't something obvious like "the entire minecraft soundtrack"), I'm still open to some suggestions.

I'll be covering a select moments from these games and more:

- Halo 3: ODST

- Dark Souls 3

- Kentucky Route Zero

Comments

yeah I might dig into those commentary tracks to see if there's any particularly interesting nuggets in there about that and the director system. good call.

Thought about it a bit more - the Left 4 Dead series has an incredible soundtrack system that's a source of information for the player in and of itself, informing them of when certain enemies spawn, when hordes are about to happen, switching tracks during combat or special enemy attacks, so on and so forth. I believe the developer commentary campaign in Left 4 Dead 2 touches on some of the thought processes and design philosophies behind them.
