Here are some concept pieces of the Dream Tree. Its design hasn't altered much since I first thought of it, I'd say it's the most consistent element of this whole story.
I had an incredibly talented friend who created the texture for it in my 3D animated senior film - maybe I'll share it here one day...//cringes

Before creating a character sheet, I would sketch out a bunch of different poses to get a feel for the proportions and characteristics of whichever character I was working on. Here's Leo's sketch sheet!
