Automatic Egg Collector

Lowell's Fish Lab post Automatic Egg Collector from patreon

These automatic collectors are compatible with either my 3D printed fry tray or the Fluval/Marina hang on tank breeding box. Silicone tubing is also required. 1/4" ID x 3/8" OD for the smaller collector or 3/8" ID 1/2" OD for the high flow uplift used by the larger collector.

Amazon links to the tubing I personally use:...

3D Printed Egg Traps

Lowell's Fish Lab post 3D Printed Egg Traps from patreon

Follow up from last night's video. Attached here are STLs for the 4.5" x 4.5" and 7" x 5.5" egg traps. I recommend a high infill % to make sure they sink. 30-40% has been enough for me. The majority of the print ends up being walls anyway.

Happy printing!

5-Gallon Rail Update

Lowell's Fish Lab post 5-Gallon Rail Update from patreon

I reworked the 5-gallon tank rails for the 7W trays and made a version to fit the 6.5W. The 6.5Wx10L seems to make the most of a 5-gallon's footprint so I think I'll be using this myself.

Directional Uplift Tubes

Lowell's Fish Lab post Directional Uplift Tubes from patreon

To prevent airline tubing from colliding with the tank glass on the 2.5-gallon tray size, I made a few variations of the uplift tube that, along with a general overhaul to the upper half, are oriented left, right, or straight forward when viewing the tray from the side. Even for the other tray sizes, this control over orienta...

2.5-Gallon Tray Size

Lowell's Fish Lab post 2.5-Gallon Tray Size from patreon

On request, a fry tray variant to fit the Aqueon 2.5-gallon tank. It doesn't need rails which is cool, but it's a small tray and a small tank water volume so be careful. I can't say I wouldn't do it, but this is kind of like raising fry on expert mode. To the band of psychopaths that have asked for this, best of luck.

March 2024 Updates

Lowell's Fish Lab post March 2024 Updates from patreon

Hi all,

New files are available. Specifics are available in the changelog but the most significant is the addition of a new line of trays that are 6.5 inches wide rather than 7. This was a frequent request and is aimed entirely at use as a set of four on a 20L tank. The usual full range of length variants is included. H...

Replacement Stand for Ziss Hatchery

Lowell's Fish Lab post Replacement Stand for Ziss Hatchery from patreon

After a couple of months of testing, I think the "frustration free" Ziss hatchery stand is ready to venture out in the world.

I have included four height variants between 7 and 10 inches (original was 8in), along with a second set with a greater angle on the feet for printers that might struggle with the overhang.

Thinking Outside the Tube

Lowell's Fish Lab post Thinking Outside the Tube from patreon

As I mentioned before, the uplift tube (specifically the opening to attach an airline fitting) will be subjected to the most wear and tear over time. Repeated compression of the material will eventually lead to a looser fit. Is that catastrophic? Probably not. But I have this nagging anxiety that some day, this will be a head...

Printing in PETG

Lowell's Fish Lab post Printing in PETG from patreon

For those wanting to print in PETG, it can certainly be done.

This was on my Ender 3 Pro with a direct drive extruder. Printed on a smooth borosilicate print bed using Overture PETG filament and Layerneer bed weld.

Lowell's Fish Lab post Great Examples! from patreon

Excellent job printing these parts! I'm very happy to see these turning out well on other printers and print settings.

3D Printed Fry Tray / Breeding Box

Lowell's Fish Lab post 3D Printed Fry Tray / Breeding Box from patreon

Attached .zip file includes all necessary STLs along with a copy of the EULA.

Key points if you didn't watch the video:

  • You must use an airline valve to control the air pressure supplied to this uplift. The flow of water and bubbles should be smooth, consistent, and n...
