Continuing the series of design drawings for Free Planet characters.
This time focusing on Talun, the robot. Talun was created by Interplanetary Development Alliance cyberneticists to be a battlefield analyst, but their evolving intelligence prompted them to rebel against their former masters.
The design for Talun took a little while to nail down.
The first rough sketches had more human-like features mixed with machine parts
I then moved on to a sort of helmet with humanoid eyes and mouth, thankfully we didn't go with this clunky design
Next design had a sleeker look, but still retained a humanoid mouth- I still like the overall look of this one and might recycle it later.
I kept the rotating eyes from the last version through the rest of the design process- they let Talun emote, since the rest of their face is inert. This is the first whole body drawing of Talun and is a bit chunky.
Refinement of the body shapes- I made Talun's limbs skinnier and exaggerated their wasp-waist
Figuring out the head shapes and expressions.
Further work on the head shapes from different angles- this one still has a wider face with seams that give it a grimace expression.
Rough sketch of the final version of Talun. Aubrey decided Talun would wear a jacket to try to blend in with the human crew.
rough sketch with notations on Talun's various technical parameters
Photo of the clay model of Talun's head that I made to aid me with drawing them from different directions.
