Added 2019-10-25 20:11:23 +0000 UTCThere have been a lot of issues in relation to WWE 2K20, as you've seen. I can give you some insight from a review copy perspective, and some of the things that unfolded in the lead up to release.
During the summer, I reached out about procuring a review copy, as is standard. A month prior to release I was asked to fill out a survey clarifying what copy and format I wanted. I personally picked digital, as I figured that would be an easier, earlier release (I admittedly don't review a lot of games). In the weeks that followed we were supplied with trailers and press releases, but no gameplay footage, as was the case with everyone.
On October 17, I reached out to 2K, as I'd not heard an update on the review copy, and were told "we'll be distributing codes right around release." While we were told that one person had a review copy upon release, the rest of media didn't receive review copies or codes until the afternoon of release. I'd joked about it on social media saying "maybe they secretly love me and wanted to spare me." Upon getting the code, they were light hearted about the tweet.
Several WWE Superstars that we'd talked to who are deep into gaming tried to gain some information on the game in prior months and weren't given much, and were told the process was "hectic."
Earlier this year, Fightful reported that 2K had come to an agreement with a third party representing Eminem to have him involved in the game and the launch. Upon the report, that quickly dissolved.
