CM Punk WWE Backstage Notes

CM Punk returned to WWE programming -- sort of. He showed up on WWE Backstage.

As noted by Ryan Satin, the move was a surprise to many there, and we're told several that worked on the show behind the scenes didn't know either. As recently as last month, Fox was "out" on CM Punk for the time being, despite him having an impressive showing at a tryout, at least according to sources within the Network.

One person from Fox has told us that it was in the cards all along, but they had to hammer out details before it happened. Upon speaking to other employees of Fox and those that have worked closely with the WWE Backstage cast, a close group of people knew that Punk would be coming in for the show, but mixed signals were sent out intentionally to keep it a secret.

CM Punk remains in the USADA testing pool, and has been drug tested as recently as this quarter.
