More On WWE Asking Wrestlers To Cease Third Party Activity

In regards to the WrestlingINC story ran about WWE asking their talent to cease third party agreements, Fightful can confirm that's true.

Many main roster members hadn't even heard of the news and had only glanced over a letter, while others were livid about the request. One top name wasn't upset, saying that Cameo definitely cuts into the virtual meet and greet market. Another longtime star said that WWE is setting themselves up for a rough situation, as this is a foggy area with their classification as independent contractors.

Originally, word was that WWE were upset about sensitive information leaking during streams.

UPDATE: Multiple wrestlers have contacted us to state that Vince McMahon did not claim that he owned their real names.

Lol AJ Styles revealing he got Covid on his stream and then management panics and tells the talent to stop going on twitch, Youtube, etc. LOL FOH...

Busby

Does this mean that wrestlers can't do any YouTube content? Asuka's content is huge on YouTube.

"Independent Contractors" . . . . . ROFL! I can't wait for the day that a few of these wrestlers decide to challenge that independent contractor designation in court.

Just Some Guy

Snap decision from Vince who is angry that AJ Styles mentioned his own positive Covid Test. A company can put it in a contract that they own your stage name and apparently your REAL name--but it doesn't mean it will hold up in court. Please someone fight them on this.

David Feig

He's 75 years old. my parents are 55 and they don't even know how to use YouTube

Evan B

No, WWE actually owns that :/

Rob Wilkins

It appears I am wrong since it sounds like it is a Vince directive, lol

Rob Wilkins

I follow several of the wrestlers, they don't bring up story lines unless someone talks about upcoming matches or what not. They all enjoy just playing the games and interacting with the fans. The other day Chugs/Cole stopped playing cause he got swarmed with subscriptions, bits, and gifts and was taken aback from the support. They should be upset and let them get termed, they got a big following and plenty of options out there, even with G4 coming up why wouldn't they want to pick them up as well.

I just don’t get it man. Why is he hell bent on trying to ruin the company he made a world wide phenomenon?

Brennon Richardson

It's like they're trying to get rid of the whole carny aspect of wrestling of hustling to make a.few extra bucks. WWE. has way too much control and power over the wrestlers.

e d

That's a bit concerning. There's a lot of WWE wrestlers on Cameo. Now they have to stop using that?

Sheila Antonio

Does that mean YouTube and podcasts too?!?

Andrew Stadelberger

WWE--their talent are independent contractors that can only work for WWE . I wonder if this is serious or a pretext to dump more talent? They just gave AOP their release, perhaps Vince clearing out more salary to give Brock a 15 year undertaker type deal?

David Feig

Xavier Woods, Adam Cole, probably more.

Bryan D'Ambra

Does this include YouTube? I cant imagine Xavier Woods would be ok with that

Mark Hebert

Who is on Twitch? I think Cesaro, Breeze, Styles, and Corbin have their own.

John Hermle

Completely different than a meet & greet. You’re having a conversation with someone and slots are limited. This you’re asking someone to give someone else a shout out or well wishes and you’re not conversing.

Hannah

This is where they need to hold another meeting and talk to Vince, Vince I doubt gives a crap about this

Rob Wilkins

I can’t imagine why Vince would think that this is a good idea.
