This is fantastic. The same thing happens when my wife and I both take tests like this.

It would annoy me if my teeth were different lengths. I have to go to a patient dentist who will make crowns exactly the same length as my other teeth. I have a habit of rubbing my tongue across my teeth so this is a must.

300 seconds is too much for my discalculia. Just did the test. I got 229/235

For me, 5 minutes feels longer than 300 seconds, like "5 minutes is close to 10 minutes, which is basically 15 minutes which is close to 20 minutes which might as well be 30 minutes, so I have time to finish this task that I have to do before going anywhere"

I agree with Lewis, 300 seconds sounds much longer. If I had to count each one it would be absolute torture. Also I think the mysterious Lewis is my current special interest. He definitely would have scored higher in several of the questions given a lot of his verbal answers were either strongly agree / agree but due to a lack of clarification they ended up being disagree. I think that's probably why Meg was a bit shocked at the end as Lewis's verbal examples were often quite monotropic. Kinda goes to show how terrible questionnaires are in general at flagging people depending on how an individual interprets each question. Definitely feels like the original creators need to be in the room to grade each answer. I've also felt this way about all official questionnaires because if I filled them in a year before my answers would have been very different. I think part of that is not realising parts of yourself but also knowing how to interpret each question. Often questions are wanting to know on a bad day when you are not coping how do you react rather than on a good day. I think the main difference between Lewis and Meg (who represents us all 😉) is while Lewis can be very monotropic (based on his verbal examples) his body isn't in a constant hypervigilant state and his answers reflect that. As someone who as a child could sleep through anything including a literal earthquake to now where a single tiny charger LED between 2 closed doors wakes me up shows just how important an over reactive central nervous system comes into play on our behaviours and executive function. I was always very monotropic but not hypervigilant until demands, stress and anxiety exceeded my capacity leading to now decades of burnout. It makes me really interested in trying therapy that is designed to calm the central nervous system.

The MQ was eye opening …. 189/235. I am diagnosed with ADHD, which probably has some bearing here considering the overlap of some behavior patterns, but I’ve long suspected Autism is at play in my life too. Now I’m really curious how my partner will score, who we assume is NT. however I feel like she’d answer a lot of questions the same way I did, so we may be in for a surprise.

Okay, so I redid the test. Got 191/235 this time around (about 40% more monotropic than autistic and 94% of allistic people), had to check the comment I left on the youtube video to be sure, but got 176/235 first time (not sure what I answered differently to be honest). I'm a bit surprised Lewis scored so low though, felt like a lot of his answers were pretty similar. Also lol, that thing about 5 minutes versus 300 seconds (and the mention of the rocks and feathers) reminds me of that bit from the Limmy Show about a kilogram of steel versus a kilogram of feathers "But.. but steel is heavier than feathers." I don't really make a distinction I think, both seem equally too short to get anything done. If I had to make a choice I'd say seconds sounds shorter though, just because the denomination is smaller.

Lol I meant at 12:30 I didn’t think the whole podcast was gonna be about soccer /j

I'd say 300 seconds sounds longer than 5 minutes. Maybe because the only time i'd focus on time at the granularity of seconds is if I'm paying close attention to a clock which slows down the perception of time passing.

Also I feel like I got a little shoutout when Lewis was talking about soccer (football) 😁😁

Ben Rice

I’m only like 10 minutes in but idk when you guys recorded this but I’m glad I got Lewis back into chess a little 😂😂

I find Lewis absolutely fascinating! He sounds very much like me before I had an autistic crisis at the end of high school. I didn't have to study at all, introverted, constantly fidgeting/moving, intense interests etc. I didn't have any noticeable issues until my support network (mum) was removed (not dead or sick etc 😅, just not at home as much as she was living her own life and I also later moved out to go to uni) from my daily life then I struggled to function as my routine was not there and I had to do everything myself without guidance. I definitely think Lewis is neurodivergent BUT (and I hate to use this word in our community, so sorry in advance) he isn't disordered (and therefore wouldn't be officially diagnosable under the DSM until social demands exceed his capacity) as his executive function is functioning. I like to look at Lewis as a great learning opportunity for us who do struggle as to how we can try to help ourselves: 1. Stim freely and openly 2. Have a support person to help carry the load (like Megan) 3. Be comfortable with not talking at all in a group conversation and just listen (I actually really enjoy doing this when I'm ok with giving myself permission to do so, and it makes following the conversation much easier and enjoyable) 4. Engage with your special interests like gaming etc (I find this hard as a PDAer but when I do allow myself to play video games I am so much better afterwards and well regulated the next day) 5. Reduce masking whenever you can (this is so so hard to do but the amount of unnecessary energy we burn to mask is utterly exhausting) 6. Practice Mindfulness (😵) 7. Presumably Exercise, but do something you love to do. It should be fun and not a chore 8. Be yourself, listen to your body and mind, don't torture yourself and push through a task you struggle at, allow someone else to help

5 minutes sounds so much longer than 300 seconds! 300 seconds feels like nothing! This is a very strong opinion I have now haha

I have NEVER heard of anyone else who does the teeth grinding to music thing. I basically don't have canines anymore because tapping them together on the 1 and 3 beats of a song was just.. the thing to do, and now they're rounded right down 😅 Also the Vaati shoutout was delightful, that IS how it's pronounced lol Anyway lovely podcast to listen to while I work today, much love from the other side of the world 😊
