The Alltistic Podcast Episode 7 - How our School Experiences Differed Part 3 Allistic vs Autistic

SURPRISE!! We're Taylor Swifting you with a double podcast!! Make sure you've heard episode 6 first (well, do want you want, but it'll make more sense 😂)

We're focusing on the 'joys' of high school this time!

We discuss learning to speak toddler French, the big students' revolt at Lewis' high school, eating off-menu pasta & cheese, bullying, and not understanding that you actually have to talk to people if you want to make friends...

Thanks for listening! (If anyone knows where that's from, please let me know!)

Here's a bit of info about how UK school works if anyone overseas gets lost!: https://www.brightworldguardianships.com/en/guardianship/british-education-system/

The Alltistic Podcast Episode 7 - How our School Experiences Differed Part 3 Allistic vs Autistic

I relate to the idea of not knowing I was being bullied in high school 😂. There was a kid who was always talking about how he was attracted to me and maybe wanting to have sex with me or something? And I just thought he was annoying but for some reason was really into me... He never tried to do anything to me. But one time my friend threatened to punch him if he said something like that again and I was like oh was I being bullied? And there was another kid who always talked about my converse shoes and called them weird nonsense names and sang about them... I also just thought he was annoying, but in retrospect I realized he may have believed he was bullying me because he reached out to me on social media recently and was acting overly nice...

Looking forward to "seeing" you on the next one 😳🤩

Oh no the small child plagues, we have 2 sources 🤣 More ramblings of high school sound great 😄

Oh ties, I suck at ties. Had to get my sister to do them. Tried to extensively practise them for my wedding years later but still struggled, can't remember if I tied my wedding tie in the end or not 😅

I was the same way with a backpack in school and my side bag now - gotta be prepared and not forget anything, with the side effect of breaking my back. These podcast episodes are great.

The story about the strike was hilarious:) I don't know why, but picturing 100s of kids running around a building is ridiculous.

Frog

Did you know that the music used in the “You wouldn’t steal a car” ad was stolen?

Sarah Weadon

I just want to say I love these and they are awesome.

Thanks for your podcast. i live out in the country and it takes me about 35 minutes to get to town by car and having one of your podcast playing, I feel like I’m car pooling with two very fun friends in the back seat reminiscing and laughing, as good friends do.

😂 Don't worry, I was just being silly! Only natural banter, I promise!

I'm Autistic, Now What

I feel like I was the one that mentioned the banter. I feel you banter & tangent well already. You don't need to implement any "forced" banter xD

fo4URm

Weirdly apologetic is how I feel about it too omg 😂 I'd love to make a video about it!!

I would LOVE a video about Catcher in the Rye!! it's literally my favorite book & it inspired my only tattoo: "it's history, it's poetry" trying to explain my connection to the book always ends up with me being weirdly apologetic about it. I know it's got its issues, but I related so much to the story. that particular quote is from Holden's creep professor, but he explains how we can all learn from each other. everything you feel has been experienced before and if you look around, you can learn from their experiences. and you can share your own. it's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. it's history. it's poetry. whew

Maybe one day we'll be lucky enough to hear it 😂

Good episode, personally I was hoping for a Lewis dodgeball story, but it is what it is lol

It was not his first time. He was the same sub who told my friend that because she is a woman she needed to go to the office and drop out of auto shop class. (That was the class he was subbing for) he was really rude and misogynistic. I dont know how he was hired to begin with.

I was a teacher. I would never have treated a student in the way you described, but I also can’t imagine a teacher being fired over that. Reprimanded, yes. Then fired if they did it again.

Argy

Surely they would have reprimanded the teacher rather than firing them?

Argy

There was a substitute teacher in my American sign language class. (It was my safe class) I had a bad day up to that point. I was bullied a lot and told to kíll myself daily. On this particular day I had spent the last class writing goodbye letters. My regular ASL teacher gave me a lot of space and time for my work, seeing or sensing that i needed it. Anyway, we had a sub that day and he was mean. I need to explain that we were supposed to be at assigned tables but on sub days the kids tended to sit with friends wherever. I did not have friends so i was left alone on my table. The days assignment was to watch a movie and fill out the worksheet provided. The sub the went off script and made each table answer questions from the worksheet. I had my head down trying not to cry already. I knew I could make up the assignment later. Well he called on me. I was frozen. I literally could not move. He then started yelling at me on how I was disrespectful, and people like me are what is wrong with the world and I needed to go to the office and get out of his class. Eventually he stoped yelling and moved on. I put my head in my arms on the desk and cried. I had many days similar. I have only had a few other times when teachers were that mean to me. It was mainly the students. When our regular teacher got back apparently someone from my class told her what happened. I was just going to forget it and move on. But my teacher (when she found out) went above and beyond to make sure i was okay and that the sub was fired.
