Did they “fridge” Icheb? And could the recasting and death be because of comments made by the original actor to various Trek alums?

I heard in another podcast, hanilee culpepper talking about the first three episodes were originally only two. And as they edited the later episodes they realized they needed to put more of the backstory up front which extended the first three (mostly added to the first two). This might help explain why the first few episodes feel a bit slower paced.
