Though I have numerous character figures done, I have not worked on sets for a while. Not since DAZ 3 in fact, so naturally none of the old scenes open anymore. So, I am rebuilding a basic gym (using Ness) and will be creating variations and alternate gym sets.
Obviously this is far from complete, I only have a bench (loaded with 765 lbs including bar) and one dumbbell rack set up.
I spent most of that evening working on the mirrors and lighting, as despite his detailed models, Ness seemed to have neglected reflectivity and realistic lighting in this kit.
I am rather happy with how the lights look now, though they cast a bit too much glare on the left wall... they do at least look as though they are coming from the ceiling ;)
I had to set the raytracing for reflections to the DAZ Studio maximum of 32 and rework the material to get the mirrors right. They were just a dull gray with no reflection.
The first time I constructed this set, I actually bypassed the nicely beveled mirrors Ness modeled because of this, and just used a generic rectangular solid for the main mirrors.
Surprisingly this renders very quickly... though I am afraid when I put a character in the scene all the compound reflections may increase render time exponentially. Still, to get a view of that many angles in one scene, it will be worth the extra wait ;)
Thankfully the computer I set up last month and DAZ Studio 4.9 is much faster with a scene like this than my old laptop was running DAZ Studio 3.x.
