Character Ask Game (With Kree and Clara) Part 1

These questions are from a post by @grumpy-triceratops on tumblr called 🌸My Super Long Hopefully Fun Character Ask Game.

There are six different sections of questions including this one, and over time I'll answer them all!
For reference:
🌿 = Clara
🪶 = Kree

👕Appearance

1. What is your character's favorite physical trait they possess?

🌿: Clara thinks she is very plain, especially compared to her ex Rosie, but she has always enjoyed combing, braiding, and putting up her hair. 

🪶: Kree also considers himself plain due to female harpies never being interested in him, but Clara doesn’t seem to mind that his feathers are plain and snuggles in close to him when they’re clean and soft. The mating feather in Clara’s hair is also his own, so if he had to choose his feathers would be his favorite. 

2. What would your character wear if they were told they had to gussy up?

🌿: Clara would wear her whitest, finest linen shift, a well tailored dress from her closet that would likely be slightly behind the fashionable silhouette of the day, a frilled linen cap to cover her hair neatly, her newest pair of stockings, and perhaps she’d pin on a broach Kree would have given her some time ago.

🪶: Kree does not like wearing clothes, but he does like collecting/wearing jewelry for short periods of time, so if Clara wanted him to dress fancy he’d look around his nest and ask Clara which pieces of jewelry he should wear.

3. Is there something about your character's appearance that they would change if possible?

🌿: It’s not quite an aesthetic change, but Clara would want to have a stronger body/ tougher skin so that Kree didn’t have to be so careful around her and so guilty when he accidentally hurts her.

🪶: Kree would change his height in a heartbeat. He’d want to be over 6ft like most other male harpies rather than 5ft8. 

4. Does your character have a favorite material they like to wear?

🌿: Clara loves linen. It’s sturdy, easy to clean, and gets softer the more you wear it. She also loves the feel/ texture of silk, but even if she could afford it, it would get ruined while living in the forest.

🪶: Kree loves his birthday suit.

5. What are your character's opinion on scars?

🌿: Clara is more worried about the wounds that caused them and if they have healed properly. The scars don't matter so long as the person is alive to bear them.

🪶: Kree has some harpy pride that tells him scars on males aren’t attractive. However, Clara has comforted him enough for him to know that it’s not the scars that will make her upset, but the fact he wasn’t being careful. Kree does his best to make sure Clara never gets hurt, but the small ones he has created himself on her soft skin wound him deeply. 

6. How much interest does your character take in trends?

🌿: Clara doesn’t care too much about the popular trends or whatever the other women of her time are interested in, but she does try to take a bit of notice so she is still able to sell her knit and dye works when she occasionally re-enters society. 

🪶: Kree is curious and likes to learn about what other hapries are up to, but changes in trends are a bit slow to harpy culture.

7. Is there someone your character tries to look similar to?

🌿: Not in appearance, but Clara really tries to emulate the strength and confidence of her Aunt Ava.

🪶: Harpies cannot really change their appearance by much without compromising their ability to fly, but he does try to stay strong and fast like non-runt male harpies.

8. Does your character have a physical trait that they're known for?

🌿: I think Clara’s hairstyle is her most recognizable trait. (But I, and also Kree, also have a personal fondness for her pushed up bust caused by her stays.)

🪶: Kree has his big yellow eyes what widen brown when he’s curious/happy.

9. What does your character smell like?

🌿: Clara tends to smell like the different herbs and plants she has foraged and worked with that day, but sometimes if she spends too long around a bubbling dye bath she can smell uncomfortably bitter. 

🪶: Even right after bathing, Kree has a distinct wild musk to him that is an acquired taste to most. Clara thinks he smells warm and comforting, but distinctly different than a human.

10. If your character could splurge on a particular garment, what would it be?

🌿: Despite never having anywhere to wear it, Clara would love to have a silk dress with a full, lush skirt that makes that delightful swishing noise when one walks in it.

🪶: Kree would get a shiny full suit of armor. He wouldn’t wear it, but he’d love staring at it, or would make Clara wear it for fun.

11. Is your character's favorite color a color they wear often?

🌿: Clara doesn’t see as many colors as Kree is able to, so she likes high contrasting patterns more than individual colors. She rarely wears them herself, though.

🪶: Kree doesn’t wear clothes, but his favorite colors are Clara’s light blue/gray eyes and the pink of her flushed cheeks.

12. Has your character gone through major stylistic or physical changes?

🌿: I feel like Clara’s hair and face seem to change slightly almost every time I draw her…but otherwise she’s exactly like the first time I drew her.

🪶: A long time ago (2021) I almost decided to give Kree a more complex feather pattern but realized it was a lot easier to draw him as one single color…so he no longer has white tips at the end of his feathers, poor boy.

13. What is something your character would refuse to wear?

🌿: Obviously stolen goods. side eyes Kree

🪶: Anything form fitting. He’ll occasionally wear scarves/ legwarmers that Clara knits him but pretty much anything with a waistband, buttons, or ties are too uncomfortable/restrictive for him.

14. Is there a style your character is afraid they can’t pull off?

🌿: Clara thinks she’d look a bit silly in the flamboyant makeup and huge hairstyles that are popular among the wealthy nobility.

🪶: Kree is confident that he could look good in anything, he just would prefer not to.

15. Would your character wear something someone else picked out for them?

🌿: Growing up Clara has always worn her Aunt’s hand me downs but would re-sew them to better suit a more modern fashion. So long as the clothing was simple and fairly up to date, she wouldn't mind used/gifted clothes, but if someone gave her an outfit that was too flamboyant, she would likely cut it up and use the fabric for something else.

🪶: Not even Clara’s insisting would get Kree to wear human clothes regularly. But the few things he does choose to wear are exclusively from her.

16. Is your character's appearance more telling or deceiving?

🌿: Looking at her, I don't think anyone would assume Clara is the type to fall in love with and give up her simple life for another intelligent species. But monster fuckers take all shapes and sizes!

🪶: To those that first see him, Kree may seem dangerous and otherworldly, but he’s ultimately a squishy sweetheart that has an insatiable curiosity. However, don’t be fooled into thinking he’s harmless. If Clara was ever in danger he is more than capable of maiming anyone/thing who would bring her harm.

17. What are your character's thoughts on wearing costumes?

🌿: Clara doesn’t have any reason to wear costumes (the modern version of Halloween technically doesn’t exist in their world) but if Kree wanted her to wear something particular for an evening she most likely would say yes.

🪶: Kree enjoys Clara in any outfit, but he loves when she wears something new, interesting, and more flamboyant than what she usually wears. To him it's like new gift wrapping, making it all the more exciting to tear off.

18. Does your character have a favorite outfit?

🌿: Clara loves her pair of stays and pleated skirt combo and only deviates from it because of weather and the changing fashion around when Laurel is born.

🪶: Kree prefers nothing, but he does love the first scarf Clara ever made him and is very careful with it.

19. If your character had to get a tattoo what would it be?

🌿: If she had to, Clara would get botanical tattoos of her favorite magical and non magical plants. Otherwise she’d be too afraid of the pain to get tattoos.

🪶: Kree would get Clara’s name tattooed over his heart, but it’d be hard to see under all the feathers.
