"How long has you been alive?" Alex asks, his voice tinged with both awe and trepidation. Maya looks at him for a long moment, her gaze unreadable.

"Centuries," she finally answers, her voice soft and melodic. "I have seen empires rise and fall, wars that have scarred the earth, and civilizations that have faded into the annals of history. My people had started world ending events just to run around and kill your people. Eat them as they try to run. It was so thrilling. To feel that kind of power. That's why we are known as the night walkers and the humans are known as the day walkers."

As she speaks, her eyes seem to shine with a knowledge far beyond her years, and Alex can't help but feel a shiver run down his spine. He can't imagine what it must be like to live for so long, to witness the world changing around you while you remain untouched by time.

"Why me?" he asks, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why did you choose me?"

Maya smiles, a faint sadness creeping into her expression. "Because you intrigue me," she answers simply. "You are not like the others I have known. You are different, special in a way that I cannot explain. I find myself drawn to you, and I cannot resist the pull. I studied you from afar and I wanted to know you. I wanted to know how a man like you lives."

Alex nods, not entirely sure what to make of her answer. He knows that there is so much he doesn't understand about her, about her kind, but he can't deny the connection he feels between them. It's as though they are two halves of a whole, drawn together by an unseen force.

"Are you evil?" A weak question, but the one he most wanted to know. If she was, then this would be the end for him. Or would it? If he was to die, then he would die happy. Right?

Maya's eyes flickered with a mix of amusement and something darker, something he couldn't quite place. "That's a loaded question, Alex," she murmured, her voice low and seductive. "Do you really want to know the answer to that question?"
