Something interesting I noticed in ‘Whatever It Takes’- in the beginning, one of Carmilla’s lines is that she thought she’d “keep blood off [her] face”. Normally, the phrase is “keep blood off your hands” and it refers to staying innocent/remaining nonviolent. However, Carmilla sells weapons; she’s already involved in violence, but it’s sort of from a distance. So her line uses “face” instead of “hands”, because in this case it’s not that she was innocent until now, but that she hasn’t been *personally* involved before. Just something I thought was cool!

Angel is a direct challenge to this perspective - he's an addict and so he had to go into sex work. Most addiction starts in trauma and/ or poverty. If a person wants to be a better person they ought to have that opportunity to become a better person (altho a lot of what this show seems to think are sins don't strike me as such ngl).
