YOU’RE DOING HADESTOWN AAAAAA I was hoping for it so much :D I am so excited!

I always loved the use of the circular stage: it literally rotates the woman Alexander wanted out of reach and replaced her with with his second choice. Such amazing staging

This is the second Hamilton song I ever heard, after one I can't say 'cause Spoilers, when animatics were starting to blow up on Youtube. I thought Burr was hinting that there's something wrong with Alexander, so he never stops working. This song's urgent tone made me think he had a terminal illness or something, so I was in a constant state of worry till I saw the whole show. *Halfway through the video Cas asks if Ham Sammich is dying.* :O He gets me, I feel so seen. Alexander is probably constantly thinking 'While I'm here wasting time, people are still losing their lives out there. People out there still need freedom.'

I kinda want to make sure that you get that "The Constitution of the United States" that Hamilton wrote 51 essays defending is the SECOND government of the US. For 8 years after the war the first government was The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, then it went bankrupt and there was to be a vote on the next type of government- which is why Hamilton, Madison, and Jay wrote essays about it, to get the public to agree that it was the best way forward.

Mellissa Marcus

Hamilton: “Burr, you’re a better lawyer than me.” Casper: Is Hamilton DYING??? 🤣 In seriousness. Immediately after the revolution the US was governed by a document called the Articles of Confederation, which left most governing power to the new 13 state governments and gave the centralized government (what would become the Federal Government) basically zero powers. After eight years and one failed rebellion (the Whiskey Rebellion), the founding fathers reconvene and drafted the US Constitution which had the stronger centralized government that still exists to this day. It had to be ratified by a majority of the 13 states and was controversial in a way that only true compromise can be: no one got exactly what they wanted, so everyone kind of hated it. That chaos is why Burr is still sitting to the side, basically. The Federalist Papers truly did turn the tide, and they STILL influence judicial precedent in the US, for good and for ill.

You should totally end open arms reactions with something like "and remember guys to greet the world with open arms. See ya!"

In hindsight, hearing this first then listening to all the songs where the motifs came from after… its an interesting experience.

This was the first Hamilton song i ever heard (and the only one i ever listened to for a long time lol), still remains my favourite i to this day i reckon. It’s got so much going on all at once

Hamilton’s mother died when he was twelve. He and his brother were adopted by a cousin who suicided a year and a half later, and the boys were separated. When Hamilton was 17, the islands were hit with a devastating hurricane. And at 22, he was in the middle of the Revolutionary War. 200,000 dead, and over half from small pox. Hamilton was very aware of death, and that it takes and takes and takes. Lin has talked about the death of his best friend when he was in kindergarten; she accidentally drowned. That’s an early age to start to understand and fear death. Lin’s productivity may be fueled in part, by that trauma. And inspired by Chernow’s biography of Hamilton, the sense of running out of time, became a major driver for the Hamilton character too.

Oh also-- One of the layers Mortius didn't mention is that "just you wait" from the opening number. "And there's a million things I haven't done, but just you wait. Just you wait." While doing a million things during non-stop and promising more to come! Brilliant.

Griffin

So excited for the second act. Casper at least knew some of what to expect in the first half with the revolution going on, but basically everything in the second will be a surprise! Looking forward to it all.

Griffin

Non-Stop is absolutely my favorite song in the whole musical. It's so inspiring.

Alcaria Bordelon

When Casper was asking if Hamilton was doing all of this because he was dying, it made me think back to My Shot where he says "See I never thought I'd live past twenty" and then later says "For the first time, I'm thinking past tomorrow...and I am not throwing away my shot." I think he had lived so much of his life assuming he'd die at an early age because that was common where he was from, and he had already lost so many of the people in his life, and now he has this purpose, this drive to lay this foundation and build this new nation to pass on to his children -- with Hamilton it always comes back to "what is the legacy I will leave when I'm gone" -- and so he doesn't have time to waste, he can't throw away his shot, he doesn't know how much time he's going to get so he feels the need to use whatever time he has to work nonstop for what he wants and what he'll leave behind when he's gone. "How do you write like you're running out of time? How do you write like tomorrow won't arrive?" Because he has to assume that he is, and that it won't.

“My heart says go” is so good, especially for a college kid writing the whole thing. Def some intertwining with epic. I could have swore there is a video/youtube of the students performing but can’t find it so I binge it on Spotify instead. I was gonna post the link below but im not sure the etiquette of posting music links here of pieces you guys may want to cover later.

Molly S

do hamilton animatics, and my life is yours 🫡🫡🫡

"My Heart Goes On" sounds like a fun crossover between Titanic and My Heart Says Go
