There were always different sizes for bikes, but it often came with specific components. You might get a stem for your handlebars that is longer if you have a long torso. The frames usually have a variety of sizes for each model that would typically correspond to inseam. Most bikes are fit pretty roughly just based on height, but a proper bike shop should do a fitting before purchasing to make sure everything is set. Obviously ebikes are a little different since people tend to buy them rather than build by components.
