A Bug’s Life (PS1) - AniMat's Reviews

A Bug’s Life is not just a fan-favorite Pixar movie, but it also has a video game for the PlayStation, a.k.a. the PS1. In this review, I’ll be taking a look at the cult classic and how the game is almost good with all the materials to be great, but at the moment you start playing the game, A Bug’s Life becomes a nightmare.

What a strange era, when every movie had a license tie in game. Can't say I fully miss it.

No wonder I’ve rarely played my copy of this game. Happy Halloween! I did think this would be the game you’d review, but I gave up guessing too early :)

To be honest, I don't think anyone would seriously recommend playing an older system like the PlayStation 1. Growing up, I only had a Sega Genesis, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Switch. I even had a computer before the days of consoles. With games from that era, I'm honestly glad I didn't play those older systems. I wouldn't be interested in using controls that feel clunky or playing games with poor graphics. I think even Sega games looked better than those!

I mean by all accounts a bunch of old games from back then are notorious for being difficult.

I was expecting the retro Pixar game you’d be reviewing would be Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue considering this year marks the 25th anniversary of Toy Story 2 and reviewing the video game tie-in would be a great way to mark the occasion, but I didn’t expect it’d be the A Bug’s Life video game of all things; especially after hearing some bad things about this game. After watching this review and you relaying your experience with the game, maybe you would’ve been better off playing Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue. It’s basically A Bug’s Life (video game), but better executed in its game play mechanics and playability that makes the experience actually fun.

I’ll say right now I myself never really owned a PS1 so I never really played this game myself, however I can definitely see a lot of the points you bring up, also with the camera in this game, if it’s really as bad as you say it is, this is probably the kind of camera that would make the camera from the original Epic Mickey actually seem controllable by comparison at least there is a way for you to somewhat control the camera in that game.

Thank you so much for doing my request!

I think the n64 version does have text boxes during the tutorial section

That was one of my guesses, here I thought it was gonna be the Sega-Genesis Toy Story games! What even funny is that your description is actually accurate to the Mind Pulp videogame video when they did a bugs life game. Ironic
