Pokémon the Movie 2000 - AniMat's Classic Reviews

It’s time to go back to the world of Pokémon as we take a look at the second film, Pokémon the Movie 2000, or as they call it in Japan, Lugia’s Explosive Birth (Yes, that’s part of the original Japanese title). In this review, I’ll be looking into a personal blast from the past and see how the legendary birds and Lugia might be able to pull off a better feature than Mewtwo did in The First Movie…even if it’s only by a little bit.

Pokémon the Movie 2000 - AniMat's Classic Reviews

I have fond memories of this film from how often it played on Cartoon Network, but its pretty far from flawless.

Honestly I didn't really think about this movie when I first saw as a kid the only thing good about it was the short before, but looking at again there are more improvements compared to Pokémon the first movie the best recommendation I could say is it the middle child of a trilogy it maybe forgotten for a time but has enough to stand on it's own. As for the next Review well it was only a matter of time when you had to revisit the Woods again

Jeff B. Hughes

Yeah it’s called The Polka-Mon

Wait? Weird Al has a song in Pokemon?!

Hunter O'Laughlin

Good work with the review (I see your final scores of 5-6 to be okay) also rest in peace, Rachael Lillis. I’ll send you my next movie by message, so stay tuned for that. PS: Would any of you believe this review came in the result of a coin toss? (By me)

Tom Jackson

I’m kind of surprised that Mat didn’t bring up the fact that Weird Al has a song in this movie, he did that For Transformers

Yes we finally get to see a review of Hoodwinked!

Well now this is an unexpected surprise. When It comes to this movie, I saw this when I was a latecomer sometime around 2008 to 2009... (Maybe I never specified) I was getting caught up with the first series and saw this one after I finished the first film. Honestly I can agree on one aspect Tracy barely has any Personality what so ever in fact even today I still don't remember much from him other then he was Oak's assistant before accompany Ash in the second season. But I will admit I always thought this was my favorite film of the franchise. I always loved the action the film presented and even I started to think that Misty might have a thing for Ash, really I thought it was cute. (That is until I learned later on in the series she was no longer in it and often being replaced by other characters like Serena. Well that pulled the cork from that Ship!) Outside of that I also thought that the best aspect of the movie in general was the Score. I know a lot of people who are fans that adored Lugia's song and even to day is consider the best tune from the anime. It's still something that I can treasure even if I not interested in completing the show's storyline.

Yes we're getting a hoodwinked review next week 😄✌️

Ethan Jerez

That tribute you made was beautiful. In fact I want to say Misty was always my favorite character from the original series. When in the later part of the show where she was no longer in it is what really made me lose interest in to continue watching and kinda disappointed she wasn’t really the full interest. Also to my part: To Rachel Lillis, may you be an inspiration and forever be in peace!

Alan Oliva

Also, rest in peace Rachael Lillis, you gave us many great smiles and entertainment with your excellent performances!

I’ll say right now that I’m not really a huge Pokemon fan so I don’t have much to say about this one but I can definitely see how fans of the franchise can enjoy it. So the next classic review is Hoodwinked, definitely one of the prime examples of a movie with terrible animation but a pretty solid script.

Justin Monti

Yes!

Shane Vance

YES! Hoodwinked! is next! Perfect for this year considering the film will turn 20 in December and is among my nominees for the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry alongside How to Train Your Dragon, Chicken Run and Inside Out.

Hunter O'Laughlin

Idk if this may be a stretch or not but Hoodwinked?

Jillian

Lugia’s Explosive Birth is the funniest and most unhinged movie title I’ve ever heard.
