Plankton: The Movie - AniMat's Reviews

Yes, we’re having another SpongeBob spin-off feature on Netflix starring Bikini Bottom’s smallest resident with Plankton the Movie. In this review, I’ll be cautiously looking into this new feature and how it compares to last year’s disaster that we know as Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. Can Plankton’s songs and love for Karen be enough to redeem SpongeBob’s time on Netflix?

Feels less like a franchise at this point and more just a product to be sold.

I may be putting two and two together (Based on the recent review) but basically when you think about the concept of more SpongeBob movies, is almost a bit of the same thing with Pokemon. It is show beginning a movie series, and SB got started in having 5 films. While Pokemon has more then like 23 movies entirely with the same lead. I can't help the fact it is true that they keep going with him until they can't come up with anything else. I mean who know how long it'll be.

I didn’t see the leaked version on the Plankton movie since I wasn’t aware of it unlike the Sandy Cheeks movie so I only watched it on Netflix when it came out. All I can say is, “ehh” 🤷🏻, at least it better than the Sandy Cheeks movie for sure. I think the relationship of Plankton and Karen, some catchy songs, alright heart, and some part of the animation that makes it up from being alright with the recycle story, weak writing, hit or miss comedy, etc holds it down from being just okay. I know would also nitpick of some of the continuity that they keep changing again like they did in past episodes and movies but that would take me awhile to talk about so much of it. I’ll leave it at best by saying that it fine at best despite won’t change any SpongeBob fans mind in this current state this franchise is in at this moment. I kinda hope if the fourth main SpongeBob will do even better when it comes out.

Well I gotta say, that quite a relief. A little harsh to judge already assume this was going as bad as Sandy's film. But I couldn't be any happier that they did succeed making a Spin-off that can actually be good! It's SOMETHING compare to what they could've done for Sandy Consider to her wasted Potential. In fact you can get more development from the new Stop-Motion Christmas special then you do with her movie. (I mean not taking any credit here but I did Warned you about the head bit!) It's things like that makes me consider if the people making SpongeBob these days even care to what they're doing anymore, I mean I can't help but think now they're just putting him in anything just for production values instead of giving out quality. Still though It's just nice to see him on a positive spotlight once in a while, and I do have some high hopes for the "4th" movie (I know it be the 6th but they consider SpongeBob wasn't the main lead it, counts as his 4th film) And for What they have as potential I just Hope they don't screw it up. ...again.

I would definitely take this over Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie any day.

I’m actually one of those people who saw this movie back when it leaked, and honestly I thought it was fine and definitely better than Saving Bikini Bottom, but it’s still not great, I do think the story isn’t the best but I will give it credit that it does a good job highlighting Plankton and Karen’s relationship and show what they mean to each other and how they met, the animation I also think is mixed where some of the computer animation isn’t the best, but the stylized animation is very nice looking, the characters are fine and I do think they do a good job showing off Plankton and Karen’s relationship and even the other characters are fine, and the songs while not the best are decent. Overall, I do think this is definitely a lot better compared to Saving Bikini Bottom even if it is just decent. However despite this, this still doesn’t change my feelings on the franchise nowadays and how Nickelodeon is handling it, the fact it feels like they’re milking it for all it’s worth, making pointless spin-off movies that nobody really asked for, the complete over saturation of the franchise considering we’re also getting the fourth theatrical SpongeBob movie later this year as well, and how it just feels like Nickelodeon is just running the franchise into the ground, and honestly as much as I have had great memories with this franchise over the years, now I feel like it has absolutely overstayed its welcome.

Yeah, I think this being better than The Sandy Cheeks Movie is the best way to put it. Also, is Big-Head Wanda Sykes starting to become the next Puppet Glinda for you? It certainly sounds like it from the way you talk about that element from the film as if it scarred you. Probably the first time in a long time female character in an animated film was the freakiest part of your viewing experience.

It’s not the best one I’ve seen, but no doubt a million times better than the Sandy Cheeks movie! The Plankton movie is the equivalent of a palette cleanser after the massive disaster we witnessed. Mr. Lawrence did a wonderful job at making the film decent and fun! Now let’s see if SpongeBob can make his fourth theatrical film worth while.
