Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - AniMat's Reviews

Rolling around at the speed of sound is the next video game-based movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In this review, we’re going to live and learn how this film took parts of Sonic Adventure 2 like Shadow the Hedgehog to create what many fans are saying is the best Sonic movie yet. But will all of Jim Carrey’s doubled crazy acting and fast-paced action, does this have what it takes to turn Sonic and Shadow’s battle into a truly epic feature?

I love the 3rd Sonic movie as much as the next guy. No wait, actually, no, I don’t love the 3rd Sonic movie as much as the next guy. I love the 3rd Sonic Movie, I think it’s the best one out of the 3 Sonic movies… but I didn’t like the first two Sonic Movies, so I think the 3rd Sonic Movie’s better then the first two. Oh, and just so we’re clear. Shadow said “You’re a colorful orange”, Not Colorful BUNCH! Listen to the dialogue Sonic Fans.

I never thought this franchise would be this successful or this good. I'm glad.

This was some of the most fun I had at the movies in 2024. I was a big Sonic fan growing up, but it still shocks me that I've never played Sonic Adventure 2. I played the games before and after (Adventure and Heroes), but not SA2, though I am very familiar with it through cultural osmosis, especially with the SnapCube dub. I too was laughing that Eggman pissed on the moon. Jim Carrey was the best he's been in these films with his dual role, and they did a phenomenal job with executing Shadow's backstory as Keanu's performance gives the film an emotional center. Sonic is right that Keanu is a national treasure! If we're just talking about the most pure fun I had with a movie last year, it's a tie between this and Deadpool & Wolverine. If we never got the design change, then Sonic wouldn't have become a successful film franchise with a trilogy and a spinoff show, with a fourth one on the way. I'm glad that it's a success and hit all of the marks of a successful film (best reception from critics & audiences, solid box office, confirmation of a sequel), but I knew it wasn't going to make more money than the other film that released the same weekend, though this has the upper edge domestically. It's been ridiculous seeing some of the conspiracies that have been spread because Sonic fans think Disney is out to get them and couldn't accept that the internet isn't real life. No, Disney ain't buying Sega because they're butthurt Sonic beat them opening weekend, also they can't (American companies can't buy Japanese companies). No, Disney ain't bullying theaters to show Mufasa more to undermine Sonic. And of course their sources are unreputable anti-woke sites. They're hating Disney for things that aren't even true. Mufasa may have won the worldwide box office battle, but Sonic will win as the more fondly remembered film. It's the film itself that matters most, not the box office.

I seen it three times already in one weekend for review purposes and with friends and I thought this is the best movie of the franchise so far. I think it took itself a bit more serious when it comes to Shadow the Hedgehog and his backstory and how it gotten it bit more emotional as the movie progressed along with solid action scenes, visuals, performances such as Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves, humor, heart, and characters too. Even though the story is not strong along with the writing which I don’t expect to be good, but the rest were solid throughout. It makes me even more of a Sonic now including maybe a possibility to play one of their games in the future. I be definitely looking forward to the fourth film once it came out in 2027 and see what they have in stores.

7.5/10 this is sad in my opinion because I love Sonic The Hedgehog 3 very very much more than the second movie

I’ve mentioned before that when it comes to the Sonic games I’m not really a huge fan of them mainly because I didn’t really play them growing up, I’ve played a few of them but I’m a much bigger Mario fan, so I never really played Sonic Adventure 2, however when it comes to the movies, I’ve really enjoyed them and think they’re a ton of fun to watch, I even thought the Knuckles series wasn’t that bad, as for the third movie, honestly I loved this movie and had a blast watching it and it’s by far the best Sonic movie we’ve gotten so far and quit’s possibly the best video game movie adaptation we’ve gotten. The story does a great job adapting elements from Sonic Adventure 2, including Shadow’s backstory, the visuals are really awesome and the action scenes are a lot of fun and some of the best from the entire franchise, the humor is great especially from Jim Carrey and the characters, both old and new are really well done, I definitely do think they did a solid job of developing Sonic as a character and seeing him realize what it means to be a hero and he works well off of both Tails and Knuckles who do play a part in his character development, there’s also both Dr Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik, which Jim Carry plays both of them and I really like the way they handle Robotnik and how we see his development throughout the movie and both Robotnik’s play off of each other very well and definitely one of the best parts in terms of the humor, and then you got Shadow, they definitely did a great job in terms of handling Shadow’s backstory and how it shows why he is who he is and why he wants revenge for what happened to Maria, and the moments where we see him and Maria in the flashback scenes are really well done, on top of that Keanu Reeves gives a fantastic performance. The only minor gripe I have with the movie is the way they handed Maria’s death in the movie it could’ve be handled a little bit better and did feel a little bit rushed, that and the run time could’ve been a little bit longer to develop the characters a little bit more. But despite that I still overall loved this movie and it’s definitely by far the best Sonic movie we’ve gotten so far. The movie does also have both a mid credits scene and a post credits scene, and without spoiling anything, let’s just say it definitely has me excited for what they’re planning on doing, especially considering how Paramount has already announced that there is going to be a fourth Sonic movie coming in the Spring of 2027. And honestly it’s kinda crazy how far we’ve come, we went from that ugly Sonic design from the first trailer of Sonic 1, to where we are now where Paramount listened to the criticisms and changed the design and it paid off in the end because now these Sonic movies have become so successful where now we have 3 movies and a spinoff series, with a fourth movie on the way, and the Sonic movies are now regarded as some of the best and most beloved video game adaptations out there.

I agree with a lot of what was said here, I thought it was a good movie but it’s nowhere near the best one like people keep claiming it is. And the way they handled everything with Maria felt very jarring since she does die but the movie makes it come across as more of an accident than legit murder, also the movie cuts away as soon as the explosion happened as if they were too afraid to actually show Maria dying so it almost felt like she died off screen. But I would say other than that and the fact that I do wish the movie had been just a little bit longer to flesh out the characters more and to show more scenes with Sonic and Shadow since I felt like they didn’t interact enough in the movie. But aside from those two things it’s a fun movie and I can’t wait for the 4th installment

Me and my family had an absolute blast with the third movie! I really love the action, comedy and heart! I’m glad we choose that over Mufasa. Also… HE PISSED ON THE MOON!!!
