The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie - AniMat's Reviews

Cartoon fans are getting their wish as hand drawn animation is coming back to the big screen with The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie Review. In this review, I’ll be looking into the first ever fully animated Looney Tunes movie and see how Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are able to save the world in their own feature-length cartoon. Is the hype of bringing back classic 2D animation worth it with The Day the Earth Blew Up?

I am so thankful that I got a chance to see this movie on the big screen as I do agree that this is the best Looney Tunes movie yet. Given how Warner Bros has been treating it filmmakers, partners, and now their own creations like the Looney Tunes since the Discovery merger, it show that that they are the worst major studio to work with as they only care about money and making tax write off like Batgirl for example. I’m just glad that Ketchup Entertainment was able to picked this up and give a theatrical release of what was meant to be a streaming release as I thought it was great when it comes to the story, characters, voice acting, heart, animation, comedy, and the direction from Pete Browngardt. I heard as of right now that Ketchup Entertainment is in the process maybe picking up Coyote Vs Acme from Warner Bros Discovery, but if they do, then we can definitely guarantee see it next year as long it is officially confirmed to be bought out. Definitely worth the watch this movie on the big screen overall!

Years ago, I remember Bob Bergen hosting a short-lived children’s spinoff of Jeopardy for Game Show Network. I thought it was a lot of fun, but nowadays, I can’t understand how they let it air when the title is so close to a racial slur.

To be honest, it really does make me angry how Warner Bros. has been treating the Looney Tunes lately. It’s just not fair.

After being mostly just clip compilations of their classic cartoons with only a few scenes of original animation, being teamed up with live-action celebrities like Michael Jordan, Brendan Frazer and LeBron James, it’s finally about time the Looney Tunes have their own animated film with 100% original animation with no CGI and just being the stars themselves with only celebrities with experience in voice acting voicing minor characters. I am definitely grateful there’s a studio that cares about the Looney Tunes and willing to distribute their films when their main studio Warner Bros refuses to. It really is sad how the studio is currently treating the Tunes despite being one of their most recognizable IPs and what helped them to compete with Disney during the Golden Age of cartoons and make an impact on animation. Say what you will about Disney, but at least they treat Mickey and his friends with respect and acknowledgement of the historical significance of their characters and their vital part in animation history.

Well that does really brighten things up, but will they be willing to doing so, I mean Warner Bros seems like they're too stubborn to even do it themselves.

Although If you ask me to see it, thought I'm a cartoon fan and I do like the first Space Jam (since that has more value then the 2nd, Also good actors) or Back in Action, I still don't think I be willing to see this up in theaters. I'm Happy for them that they made a movie good enough for theaters and for me personally I would see this in a heartbeat, But there a factor for us that we kinda have a "Weirdness" limit that kinda take me out for it. I can like OG Looney Tunes weirdness, I like SpongeBob weirdness, I like Alice in Wonderland Weirdness. But I DON'T Like Ren and Stimpy Weirdness. I'm not saying immediately that it has that full sense of humor. But we do have a limit for anything that may seem very Unhinged or sometimes obscene then to really enjoy what we be seeing. I say if they do it right thought I guess it's not too late to convince my folks for this.

Alan Oliva

It’s funny you mention that, because it was recently announced that apparently Warner Bros is currently in talks with Ketchup Entertainment, the company that distributed The Day The Earth Blew Up, to potentially distribute and release Coyote vs ACME.

I couldn't have said it better myself

The fact it did get release really is a miracle in itself. You never think that it be another studio who would be really willing to distribute the movie that ain't Warner Bros. (It's sad really) But I'm so happy that they reach the top for this movie, However I still don't think this will change the studio's mind for releasing Coyote Vs Acme. I mean basically In order to see that film would be if it got leaked online or if basically that David Zaslav is completely out of the picture and they get someone else to distribute their movies. It be a blessing if someone actually be willing to lose them off in order to get them back on top for more movie opportunities and make more content for Max or Place back all the stuff they got rid of in the first place. Because Now I feel like anything they have now is just Hanging by a thread.

Alan Oliva

It feels surreal that only now we have gotten a fully animated Looney Tunes film.

Honestly the fact this movie ended up seeing the light of day is crazy, I honestly really liked this movie, it definitely is a ton of fun and I’m so glad Ketchup Entertainment managed to save it from being yet another tax write off from Warner Bros Discovery, and quite frankly that absolutely did not deserve it, the story is solid and has that classic Looney Times humor we all know and , the animation is absolutely gorgeous especially with the 2D animation, and the characters stay true to the classic cartoons, overall this is a blast of a movie and easily the best Looney Tunes movie we’ve gotten. And like I said the fact that Ketchup Entertainment managed to get their hands on this movie and actually distribute it is crazy, especially with how Warner Bros absolutely did not deserve it, and I definitely do agree that when it comes to the Looney Tunes nowadays it feels like Warner Bros doesn’t value them as much as their other franchises, not to mention ever since Discovery merged with Warner Bros and Zaslav took over, they’ve done nothing but try to utterly bury the Looney Tunes, not just with almost throwing away The Day The Earth Blew Up until Ketchup Entertainment saved it, but there’s also Coyote vs ACME and the way they treated that, or even just recently the fact they recently removed all of the classic Looney Tunes cartoons from Max, and if you ask me stuff like this proves how badly Warner Bros is treating the Looney Tunes and why they honestly do not deserve them, although I do think there is hope, specifically in the case of Coyote vs ACME, considering that just today it was announced that Warner Bros is currently having talks with Ketchup Entertainment to potentially save Coyote vs ACME and distribute it like they did with The Day The Earth Blew Up, and if that would be the case, that would be a huge win and Coyote vs ACME might finally see the light of day, I’m just hoping for the best.

Justin Monti

The day the earth blew up is a great movie of all ends and as of this recording Warner Bros has remove all the classic shorts from its streaming platform which is very sad at least this movie was saved in time 😭

Ethan Jerez

I saw it twice! Loved it from beginning to end! THIS is an example of why 2D animation should deserve more attention. It shows much how heart and soul Peter Browngardt and his team put into it. We must continue spreading the word and keep 2D animation alive! It won’t be a massive success but at least a solid start for a better future.

Alex Skrapits

Yeah I enjoyed this movie in every way. Watch it, if you already haven’t! Also seems Ketchup Entertainment is looking to negotiate with WBD to get the distribution rights for Coyote Vs. Acme. So here’s hoping.

Strider_Blaze

This movie is an absolute blast! The fact that it got released and escaped the hellfire of WBD is a true animation miracle!
