Ne Zha 2 - AniMat's Reviews

Step aside Inside Out 2, because the title for the highest grossing animated movie now belongs to Ne Zha 2. In this review, I’ll be looking into this record-breaking sequel to see what made this not just the biggest movie in China, but also climbed its way up to be among the top 5 highest grossing films in history. But when we watch the feature itself, is there more to Ne Zha than being a box office champion?

I honestly never heard of this film until it broke the record. It does seem interesting.

I’m glad you seen Ne Zha 2 because that was a great sequel. I seen the first film in 2020 when it was on Netflix at the time and I thought it was okay at first as I do like what it was presented, but I think the writing was kinda weak while the humor was juvenile that I wasn’t particularly a fan of. Then when the sequel came out and I was shocked that it performed super well to the point of becoming the first animated film to gross over $2 billion which no other animated films have ever accomplished not even for a mainstream American animated film can do either considering most of the money was earned over in China. I prepared myself in watching again over on YouTube this time before seeing it in theaters at a different city and holy moly, that was awesome. While I still issues with the juvenile humor some rehash moments, the rest was absolutely epic from the storytelling, direction, action scenes, intriguing characters, voice acting from the Chinese actors, jaw dropping animation, world building, the emotional core, the score, and it darker moments. I can see why it been breaking so much records quickly at the box office which I don’t think no Hollywood films can ever top this year or the next several years, unless James Cameron’s Avatar 3 does it again for the third time if it that good. I overall like this sequel over its predecessor and if they made a third film in the next fews years, I’ll be down to see it on the big screen whenever I’m off from work.
