Stalling Supporters

Hello everyone. I come to you with a question of conscience and I'd really like your input.

Some people (a bit over 25) in my patron list have declined payments for over 6 months (ie. no successful payment, and no access, in that time at all).

What do you feel I should do?

Keep in mind; as far as I know, Patreon sends an email every month a payment fails.

So I have 2 options:

I would not feel guilty about removing them, especially if those declined payments are causing incorrect pledge and supporter totals. It is easy enough for those people to activate their accounts again if they want to--although I suspect those neglected accounts are purposefully neglected. Six months is very generous really. I've been dropped from sites after only a couple of months and 1-2 automated reminders.

They don't keep access, but they do make the 'amount of patrons' I have wrong.

No one should expect to enjoy the benefit of your generosity and skill if they don't pay at least something. You give so much more than we could ever compensate you for. I wish with all my heart to be able to give more. If all would do their best, maybe you would be getting at least the start of what you're worth. How does one pay for priceless, Sir?

Does it cost you anything if payment is declined? If not, I would be inclined to leave them there. I guess when a payment is declined for six months in a row, that person is unlikely to come back. There is a tiny chance that they will, though. If it feels untidy to leave them on your list, even if it doesn't cost you anything, you could delete them just so that it's a thread not left dangling.

If i stopped paying i would expect you to stop providing the service immediately. The fee is not large, and knowing you have an active group of participants is better than retaining those who have moved on.

That's very patient & generous of you to wait about 6 months, knowing that there are declined payments. I think by removing their access to view your upcoming posts, they'll realize that something's wrong with them, and they'll eventually fix the situation. I'm sorry that's happening to you though.

Yeah, there's no harm in removing them, especially if they can simply rejoin if they want to continue

You've been more than generous in waiting 6 months. If these people aren't responsible enough to look after their commitments they don't deserve to receive your services. Time to "crack the whip" and move on without them.

I think 6 months with repeated notifications is more than fair enough warming to them. If it really is just that they are rubbish at checking their emails properly, then removing their access will give them the kick they need to notice something is wrong and then rectify it if they wish to resume access.

If it has been 6 months already and you even tried to contact them about it and they don't even respond to your mails I think it's safe to remove them. I don't think they're gonna cry or burst out in anger about it. They probably don't even care. I guess they added you on the way while looking for hypnosis, kink whatever. If any of them is going to complain about it you could just say you have done what you could. I think 2 months should be the limit before you remove them. I mean it shouldn't take longer then that to decide if they want to pledge or not.

I think that you have been very generous at 6 months already. Especially combined with the fact that they get monthly reminders and that you have personally contacted each of them. You've done enough. Let them go.

Speaking as someone who has 20 years of customer service experience (god does that make me sound old!), 6 months of declined payments before removing them is generous. By that point in time, they’re not actually supporters and they’ve had plenty of chances to become supporters again before you remove them.

There's reason to keep inactive accounts. They clutter records. Some probably paid once, downloaded your files, then stopped payments. Whatever there reason, let 'em go. Lots of love, Wolfshade🐾

I'll leave it at 6 months for now. I might make it shorter in the future.

And, apparently some of these people haven't even noticed that their access expired.

Also, I'd suggest making a standard time frame that you remove people who continually don't pay. 1 month might be too short, but waiting 6 months would be too long. Maybe 3-4 months is enough time that you know something is up.

Shocking, yeah people need to be responsible if they agree to be a patron.

People get a reminder every month that the payment failed. :)

I'd personally contact them first before removing them, but I think 6 months is too long to not get the issue fixed.

Ha! Didn't mean to cut off mid sentence there - deleted the rest of my comment through my general ineptitude. I went on to say that a gentle reminder at four months and cut off at six seems perfectly reasonable. It does mean work for you, but that's the joys of customer handling. *laughs* Darned boring admin getting in the way of the fun stuff!

If you've tried direct contact and received no response then I would let them drop - they're no longer supporters at that point and would probably welcome no longer receiving the monthly reminders that the site is trying to

In more than six months they should have done something against it. They have access to your work, but not paying the plegde like the others of us. You should remove them >: (

I've actually contacted all of them already, using the private messages here. But none of them have responded or updated their profile. And while I could do that every month, it's a *lot* of clicks!

My first thoughts on this? I'm trying to come from a place of compassion - is there any way you could contact them yourself and give them one last chance to update their payment info? I don't have time to write more at the moment, but I will give this some more thought today. I think six months is already very generous, of course.

In my opinion, six months is more than reasonable, Sir. I have worked in businesses before that used recurring billing. Often people who don't update payment information neglect to do so intentionally because it's easier than just cancelling. And if they really are unaware, perhaps removing them will be the push they need to renew their support.

Yes they get an email if it declines - i got one when i changed credit cards and forgot to change it here Problems occur but to have no payment for 6 months is pretty unacceptable They can always rejoin when whatever is the problem is resolved Many thanks for all you do Sir 🌹
