General details regarding lineup changes - between 2014 and 2015, three of the four Chinese members of EXO (Kris, Luhan, and Tao) filed separate lawsuits against SM Entertainment for the termination of their contracts. As far as I know, all three lost their lawsuits and remained in exclusive contracts with SM until they expired, but they departed from the group as a result. The fourth Chinese member, Lay, is STILL AN EXO MEMBER (so many people refer to EXO as OT8 and it makes me so sad). However, he has been inactive in EXO since 2017 because of political tensions between China and South Korea. These tensions affect Lay specifically and not all Chinese idols because he is something of a political figure in China, as he is considered a Youth Ambassador for the Communist Party. Right now the lineup of EXO appears to be changing because members are enlisting and returning for enlistment. In Obsession, their last "full group" release, they performed as six with Lay on hiatus and D.O. and Xiumin in the military. Xiumin was actually just discharged and D.O. will be discharged in January, but Suho and Chen have just enlisted.

I've been a fan since the beginning, and if you watch the videos in order it still doesn't mean you can follow the story. There was a recent video of Jongin (Kai) and Baekhyun reacting to Jongin's solo, and Jongin said that he was recently rewatching their first MVs and he could not remember what what had been going on, so if you don't understand the plot, you're not alone.
