Just a few Holiday photos.

Hey everyone, I’m back and I should have a new page for you up later today. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful couple of days, I know I certainly have.

We visited Stonehenge, but we didn’t take any photos because I think everyone knows what Stonehenge looks like by now haha. That was very cool, although I have to say, a little too touristy for my liking. That’s okay because what I was really interested in seeing was the ancient barrow mounds that surround it. It bares the largest and closest collection of burial mounds in the UK. These are ancient burial chambers and tombs of long dead kings that cover the Salisbury plain. We walked from Stonehenge to Kings barrow ridge, then to the Cursus barrows, then the Normanton barrows. It was quite the walk but it was very quiet the moment you got away from the main attraction of Stonehenge.

The next day we traveled just a bit north to the Avebury Henge and stone circles. A much lesser-known Henge that’s honestly so much more impressive. It’s estimated that it was constructed around 2850 BC and it’s half a mile in radius! It’s an incredible sight to behold, particularly when you think about the time period when it was achieved.

We walked the ancient path lined with standing stones to the Silbury Hill, an ancient and bizarre artificial hill that stands 30 meters tall against the mostly flat landscape. It’s around 4490 years old and looks like a heath covered pyramid.

Lastly we visited the West Kenet Long Barrow, an impressive communal burial mound that you can walk inside. This was particularly interesting because the thing had been standing on that hill for 5672 years, just mind boggling. It’s seeing places like this that remind you that England is an ancient and beautiful land.

They’re something I’m really interested in at the moment, I’ve been learning about them a lot lately. So seeing them in person was quite special, especially knowing all that I now know.

Love the weighty descriptions! I had never heard of the other sites and burial mounds - the age is truly impressive. Happy for you two enjoying history together - even if not the solstice, she made time to be there with you. Seems like y’all make a great couple😁👍🏻

Oh really? That’s pretty cool. Yeah there’s stuff all over the place here, I live in the south east and there’s so many ruins here and there. Yeah I agree with you, these places hold a certain feeling about them.

Awesome! I lived and worked in the UK (Bristol) for two years. Britain has some places that are definitely magic… and don’t care if you believe in magic or not. It is just there, in the air…
