Thoughts on the coronavirus vid

I've had requests for a warning of some kind on this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvJbcEebTkg

I've also heard a lot of concern that it could be damaging to the channel.

I'm wondering your guys' thoughts on it. Should I change anything before releasing it? Take anything out? Add a warning? What would it look like? Why am I bending to democratic clamouring when this is an anarcho-monarchy?

Give me your thoughts and I will consider / thoughtlessly dismiss them as I see fit.

EDIT: Btw, I haven't been tested positive for COVID, that's disinfo

EDIT EDIT:  That being said I probably still have it lmao

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Okay I have now learned that democracy is a mistake

Comments

I have one where I'm coughing as the beat but it's pretty shit lmao

Greg Guevara

We need a Coronavirus song

great video

Alex Lonsbrough

Perhaps changing the music to something more lighthearted would do the trick, it would make the content appear more comical, rather than genuine.

BillerMemestar

Yep that's exactly what he needed to do, kept the art with an effective disclaimer that wasn't too straightforward/spoilerey. Good job to Garage

Christopher Williams

Mad props for sticking to your guns on the published one.

More blood for the blood god

Also, you should say you haven't been tested negative either

Rolyn Trotter

The thing seems pretty much fine to me. Saying you're a comedian in the first 10 seconds of the vid is enough

Rolyn Trotter

I'd say post it with a disclaimer. It's a good piece of content, but like others have said, without context .. Well, I'd think it could do potential harm, imo.

Yeah but what about people who dont know jreg and are genuinely looking how to manage their anxiety during the pandemic?

Just post it, in the end it is just funny art. Anyone who has seen your channel knows about your brand a satirical content.

Holloway098

My concern would be people starting to take snippets of this out of context and reposting elsewhere as sensational disinfo. You're not an authority and to regular viewers this is clearly just a jay-rege gone extreme piece. But society doesn't apply logic to it's action. Patreon exclusive sounds about right. Maybe when this (hopefully) blows away, publishing it would be ok. It wouldn't be as trendy and "with the times", but it's still a great piece of content. Less comical and more artistic than usual given the circumstances maybe.

a warning would actually be super nice for this vid

I think a disclaimer may be necessary in this case as info is already muddled enough as it is without sarcasm being misunderstood.

I don't think making disclaimers is at all useful

the fact that you legitimately made up information for fearmongering is... concerning. please don't upload it as is, at least put a warning or something? this is a bit too much and i'm a fan of your content.

Raccoon

...Okay I'm just gonna recommend you keep this as a patreon exclusive. We get the joke but I wouldn't publish it on youtube were anyone who's not even subscribed to you can see it and make them feel shitty, hell I like your video and this made me uncomfortable. That or pin a comment where you clarify that a lot of this information is fake and all that, but even then I still think the first thing I recommended would be the best because the truth is not everyone reads the description or comment section of videos, and you changing the video seems...Idk, I wouldn't wanna do it because it's actually really good just not appropriate for everyone. You should maybe just leave it as it is, as you want it to be but accept that right now putting it where any person can see it wouldn't be' the most responsible thing to do.

Renee Lucero

Yeahhh that's very true

Alexander LI

This one might be best to keep as a patron exclusive. We all get the joke. Your subscribers would also all get the joke. But, even with a warning, would everyone who stumbles onto this as their first Jreg video?

Kai Salmon

It needs a disclaimer at the beginning of the video and in the title. I can't watch it a second time, that is how uncomfortable it was. Being in quarantine currently and worrying about being sick, this is not the best video to watch. The world needs not to panic, but instead being alert and cautious. The spreading of misinformation and half-truths is dangerous. To understand you're videos, you need to have watched a lot of them. And even then, this one is different because it is a current crisis. Best of luck on your decision.

An ultra sped up disclaimer at the start of the video would do just fine, jay-reeg

Alexander LI

I feel that it fits in well with all of your other content and so would be appreciated by fans and would-be fans but I guess that it could be a bit jarring for someone who could be randomly looking up stuff about genuine anxiety. I guess a disclaimer might be a good idea if you're worried about the impact on your channel but I doubt you could make anyone who's already anxious any more or less anxious than they are so up to you...

Comparing the corona pandemic and hysteria to smaller outbreaks is false equivalence. Things are already worse than they were with either of those.

Barb

you should straight up state in the description which parts are disinfo and link to actual information

Imagine considering not uploading a clearly satirical video in the context of your channel over the overblown fret that your content referencing a current global issue might worsen the alarmism related to an illness with a survival rate of 98% that mainly affects people over 70 years old and people with respiratory conditions. Let me give you another example, Jreg. Would you edit or delete a video where you try to bring attention (cause alarm) to the global warming issue even if you did it (gasp!) unironically? Of course not. Don't underestimate the power that humanity has of not giving a fuck, specially in the digital era. Coronochan will be forgotten in 2 months, no matter it's actual impact on society. Take Ebola, for example. Or H1N1. Your video is ok not because you hold the satirical ground, your video is ok because it doesn't really matter. Or maybe I'm bullshitting you. Who knows, who cares.

StormTiger

yeah I reckon just go for a disclaimer at the start

Paige Crawford

I like the anxiety introducing nature of this and Frameworthless, these videos are definitely more interesting and relevant to me than your typical videos with wacky proposals and the like. Is this supposed to be satirizing mass hysteria, or actually represent legit anxieties about it? I can't tell, and I guess I can't tell if the mass hysteria in the real world is warranted either. Regardless of the intent I found it incredibly anxiety inducing quality content, I'd say you shouldn't edit the contents of the video but put like a 3 second anxiety warning at the front and a disclaimer about the false information to protect your ass and you'll be fine.

Christopher Williams

This is the end result of my content and I'm tempted to accelerate

Greg Guevara

It's a decent vid but with the amount of hysteria going around, I think this is the 0.01% of videos where you shouldn't upload it or, if you do, put some heavy disclaimers saying this is satire. People are panicking and the situation is serious, this is not a joke scenario, like the political videos. Nobody will take the Trump/Sanders vid as anything but satire. But this? If the algorithm makes it viral somehow, you'll have hell to pay and it'll be awful optics for you.

Mary Christine

Haven't seen it yet but can't wait, this post is so intriguing

I smashed download immediately

Ngl it was a bit spoopy but also quality jreg content. Maybe just put a disclaimer in the description lmao.

Layla Saturn

I actually think removing those bits would make it less clear because they’re an obvious horror element, which makes it seem more fake. The fake information that contradicts itself also is definitely the point. A disclaimer is a good idea but changing that stuff would ruin the video

Lauren Peldo

think the cryptic horror element becoming more and more prominent in your videos is really cool but yeah this one leans a little youtube risky

Laura

Upload it. But put a disclaimer in the comments being clear on what was your satire on what isn't. As some people aren't gonna know when you're joking and when your not, it may fuel their hysteria.

I lean towards this in 90% of cases

Greg Guevara

Fuck the optics, do it. Post it as is.

Considering that Trudeau is on self-quarrantine, it isn't unbelievable that you could have tested positive for COVID-19. If you really want to push the envelope, release the video as is. Know this: it's impact will be nothing but negative.

The issue is if the video finds itself to people who don’t know what his channel entails. We come to him for this specific reason but those who might get hit with it in recommended don’t and aren’t ready for what to expect

Barb

The bits towards the end when the video turns either grey or red were particularly disturbing to me, though perhaps that is the purpose. I do feel that the misleading information could damage your channel though, like I was unable to find any source on the cases of cannibalism in Italy or the length of time given for the vaccine to roll out, though again, that might be the point. At a certain point though it just feels like unnecessary fear mongering I guess? I do definitely think you should add a warning.

I’m a super anxious person, but this video is exactly the sort of thing I come to your channel for. I think a warning right at the beginning would kind of ruin the effect, so maybe clarify either at the end or in a pinned comment/in the description that it’s exaggerated.

Lauren Peldo

I would put the true information in the description/pinned comment so you don't cause too much hysteria.

Matt-hugh

I'd definitely reccomend plastering the description, title, and pinned comment with disclaimers. Also adding a postscript at the end of the video so the illiterate don't panic too. YouTube's algorithm might still try to kill you though.

Actually now that I think about it, saying in a pinned comment that some of the information in the video is fake for exaggeration purposes might help avoid intentional spread of misinformation claims.

Barb

Maybe just a 5 second bit that warns people that maybe the video could cause severe anxiety?

That's probably fair

Greg Guevara

I do, tho now I am second-guessing

Greg Guevara

You talked about removing the part that implies you might have covid-19. I personally love that part and think it’s incredibly effective but maybe leave an indicator somewhere in the video/description/pinned comment that you haven’t been tested positive.

Barb

a severe anxiety warning right before the skit could work

I didn't percieve anything objectionable about it, though i guess if you wanted to be safe you could be sure to tag it as satire so the almighty algorithm god is more likely to auto-spare it.

Moonsweater

If you want to inspire mass hysteria and paranoia Leave it just like it is

Just say no homo nationalism at the end

Maybe add a more sincere bit in the end after the main video is over.

Charles Oberonn

Well I would say be a little bit more sincere but because you run a purely metaironic channel I guess it fits.
