Video: Easy Company’s Lineage Situation is Kind of Stupid...

New video explaining the mess that is U.S. Army unit lineages and unit designation practices. I use Easy Company, 506th PIR as a convenient and famous vehicle to talk about it, but also cover some other units that are weird. For example, the 7th Infantry Divisions brigades that are designated 1st and 2nd Stryker BCT, 2nd Infantry Division, 7th Infantry Division and signified by 1-2 and 2-2 rather than the more conventional 1/2 and 2/2 for other brigades.

I am confused. Please help me understand. I have always thought that, for example, the unit designation "2-38", just meant that this battalion carried the historical lineage to "Brave Company 38th Infantry Regiment." Or "1-38th" traced it lineage to "Alpha Company 38th Infatnry Regiment." I thought that was all there was to it. Am I wrong?
