Once again, you folks come up with really great and pointed questions!

I have had the same question about the isolation layer for a long time. I always guessed that the final varnish would effect your retouching paints minimally, if at all, therefor making it necessary to add that isolation layer (if that makes any sense). But this is so much more satisfying of an answer oh my lord.

I know you said you're accustomed to working with fast-drying, reversible paints, but for the sake of "what if," I had a question. Since these are conservation grade paints, they have a solvent to lift them again once they're applied, correct? Rather than adding something to make them dry more slowly, is there a similar solvent you could dip your brush in, possibly before selecting your next shade, that would briefly reconstitute the shade you just laid down? I'm curious if that would be a feasible way to help mix on the canvas somewhat without changing the property and feel of the paint itself. Thanks for your time and information, I love these follow ups!
