Kirihara Taizo is an acquaintance of Lelouch from his younger days when Lelouch, Suzaku and Nunnaly was hiding at the Kururugi Shrine during the war. In the flashback you can see Genbu Kururugi, the last prime minister of Japan and Suzaku's father. You can also see Taizo and the little girl Kaguya, who is Suzaku's cousin. She was also shown in this episode sitting behind the blinders.
