State of Caeora

Phew this has been a hard post to write.

Not that anything critical is happening right now per say but as you all know, it's a very weird and worrying time. Typically I don't like to input my personal life too much into my patreon as I understand that most people are here to support my ttrpg maps, tokens and assets and don't like to hear too much about the negatives. I like to try and keep things positive and work focused but occasionally these things are necessary to keep everyone updated. 

That being said.. While this post is going to be a general hodge podge of my thoughts and feelings, I will be talking about what is coming up next few months and into the future for my patreon and my maps!

The Bad

About two weeks ago my Nan was rushed to hospital for an irregular heart beat. She came home after three days of monitoring but she has not been well since. Since then she has had to call the ambulance two times but both times they have been unable to take her to the hospital due to the current covid-19 crisis. This is not something that I’m dealing with particularly well as she has always been there for me throughout my life and we are very close.

I can't really talk much more about this subject but suffice to say, it's not great. 

The So So

The covid-19 crisis has everyone feeling worried, scared and tense. I won't talk about this in great detail and although I will be fine and things should be okay in the short term. Worrying about the long term here on patreon and making money as a cartographer in the long term is something that I’m definitely worrying about. 

Both of the above issues have resulted in a loss of production and I've found it hard to finish a few awesome projects that I've been working on recently. I realize that this is the best time to make battlemaps and put out content as everyone is home but unfortunately my head feels like a block of lead is resting above it. 

The Good

Thankfully it's not all bad news as there are few highlights in terms of life and work that have been going well. KTech has been looking after me and has been the most amazing partner I could ask for. She has been working hard to sketch out tokens, assets and even a few battlemaps! 

I've been streaming very frequently on twitch and the increase in viewers and the overall positive and incredibly awesome chat has been a wonderful distraction. I’ve been really enjoying streaming and this is something that has really helped right now. 

I’ve also had some time to think about things from a slightly different direction and the conclusion I came up with for the future of the patreon and my career is to produce more fantasy assets. You might say “But isn't that what you were doing?” and the answer to that is complicated. Yes I have been drawing assets but I want to focus on drawing things that are clearly going to be used for Dungeons and Dragons. 

This means Orc Assets, Elven Assets, Dwarven Assets, etc etc and the maps that go with those assets like dungeons and interiors as well as environmental things. This might not seem like a big deal but in a way this is a shift to more useful content rather than more obscure things. 

(That being said the sketch for the Barroth, & Tobi-kadachi are ready to line art from the monster hunter series that I've been doing!)

Overall  

This post is not supposed to be a massive deal and I really just want to make sure everyone here is updated as much as possible. 

It's still a surprise to me that so many people support me here on patreon and I couldn't possibly express how much the support you all give me means. I hope everyone stays well and safe during this pretty crazy time and if my maps can give people just a bit of escapism and relief from thinking about events then that's a plus in my eyes.
