I stood by the interface wall, removing my gloves one finger at a time. The golden wings of my core rig rested in passive mode behind me, folded and still. My suit was half unzipped, exposing the base layer beneath β smooth, white, clinging to the curves I usually kept hidden behind armor and duty.
βYou stayed,β I said quietly.
He didnβt answer with words.
Just watched me β his gaze steady, reverent, like he knew what it cost me to let the commander disappear and let the woman surface.
I turned slowly, facing him fully.
"Come here."
The words surprised even me β soft, breathless, but commanding.
He stepped closer. Close enough to see the fine shimmer of energy still dancing across my skin from the last healing surge. Close enough to feel the heat radiating from the tension I hadnβt let myself release in far too long.
When he reached for me, I caught his wrist. Held it between us.

I guided his hand to the zipper on my suit. Lowered it inch by inch. The cool air kissed each new line of skin revealed, and I watched his lips part as more of me came into the light.
Gold glinted across my chest as I slid the suit off my shoulders. My pulse echoed in my ears.
He looked at me like I was a miracle.
But tonight, I just wanted to be touched.
I kissed him β fierce and slow, the kind of kiss that rewrites everything. He pulled me into his arms and I melted into him, letting the weight of leadership fall away piece by piece.
We fell back onto the medical cot.
My hair spilled across the sterile sheets.
His hands explored every inch of me like he was healing me in return β not with tech, but with something far older. Human. Sacred.
I wrapped my legs around him, guiding him in with aching, quiet need. Our bodies moved in a rhythm older than war, older than duty β slow at first, then deeper, messier, more raw.
He whispered my name like a prayer.
And I let myself believe it.
When we finally stilled, skin to skin, heart to heart, I kept my eyes closed for just a moment longer.
This wasnβt a battlefield.
This was sanctuary.
And for once, I had chosen it.
