[EARLY ACCESS] When Buses and Subways Make Transit Worse

Comments

It's certainly a problem more likely to appear in places with a LOT of transit service already.

That's why I made sure to add a bit in about *not* cutting service but ensuring that service is frequent. Screwing over those with no other choice with super infrequent buses is a bad thing!

Oh hey, I know that tram. I don’t disagree with you, but maybe I think it was overlooked here, when you talk about it being quicker to walk to a nearby frequent service instead of getting the infrequent front door service, I was thinking about people without that option, such as the elderly or people in wheelchairs with mobility issues. I tend to agree that less focus towards coverage and more on frequency is best, but it’s only a matter of time before a greasy mobster I owe money to breaks my legs in lieu of payment.

I have to admit, this is a problem I've never encountered here in Houston (and I've encountered a lot of transit problems here in Houston). That said, if the current mayor doesn't succeed in killing the University Line BRT (planned with gold level service at 6min headways) , we'll kinda have that two ways, with the #25 bus (one of the busier routes, with ten minute headways) and the Westpark Park & Ride bus (one of the busier P&Rs) both competing to some degree. But I think it'll actually pencil out well, especially if they let the #25 stop where the BRT meets the line.
