'Twas another late one at work for me, and things still aren't working quite as they should, but Samstag will feature an entire evening of drinking and dancing and going out on the town in sexy dresses. I prepare to leave a string of broken hearts (or otherwise-disappointed body parts) behind me. And now, this: Would I rather... ...make a phone call or send a text? — Most of the time, a text. I was always painfully shy as a child and never really got over the phobia of being the one to dial someone's number. What if they didn't answer? What if they didn't want to talk to me? So unless it's urgent or the number can't receive texts, I'll avoid using spoken words. ...live at the top of a tall NYC apartment building or at the top of a Berg - mountain? — Boy, three years ago, I would've said the mountain, but one thing that mountaintops do not have? Internet access—at least, not very reliable internet access. See, I grew up in an area without reliable internet access, though it wasn't quite a mountaintop, and mountaintops are actually much worse because of the volatile weather patterns. So I guess if the apartment building is tall, and we're setting aside such silly things as the cost of living, I'll go with the apartment building. I'll have a nice view, all the amenities I need, and maybe a nice rooftop garden to retreat to. ...have x-ray vision or magnified hearing? — Either one would be hella useful for my job and in life, but I'm going to go with x-ray vision. I can't tell you how often I lose bits and pieces under tables/behind desks/etc. So much time freed up. (There's another obvious benefit to x-ray vision, but that doesn't do much for me.) ...have to sew all your clothes or anbauen - grow your own food? — Growing my own food would be prohibitively difficult in my small living space (though I do grow some herbs), so I'll go with sewing my own clothes. I've done it before; I could get back in the practice. ...be stuck on a Zug - train or a bus? — Well...define "stuck," I suppose. Usually, a bus is in a location that would be easier to leave on foot than would be a train. I think I'll still go with a bus—chances are that a second bus would come before too long to pick us up, and as far as being stuck inside? Buses and trains are equally easy to escape from in my city. ...become someone else or just stay du - you? — There's no one in particular I'd rather be, other than a better version of myself. One that doesn't have allergies or brain damage, and one who isn't so terrified of other people.

I have an important project to finish for one of my labmates (a test for something I will eventually do for him for a paper), but the equipment has not obliged over the last couple of days. And my advisor wants me to take a crack at yet another plumbing project. When people ask me what I do for a living, I'm starting to wonder if I should tell them I'm a plumber! Lol Best thing that's happened so far? Hm. I suppose seeing my friend here at work. He and I shared an office for a year and a half and bonded over alcohol and nightmares of university politics.
