Jen, Your post really resonated with me. I agree with what you wrote about being able to step out of your life and be somewhere else even if only for 20 minutes and have that escape because life does get overwhelming (I mean let's add a pandemic and now new Covid variants to the already difficult things we all have to deal with at times, Really Universe?) It's an escape that no one else gets to share in and when you are there no when else can reach you, it's something I get to selfishly have all to myself in my little corner of the world. I also agree with you that the song is a bit haunting & dark. I first heard it on one of Sinead O'Connor's albums where she sang about a male love but when I heard Loreena Mckennitt's live concert version I thought it was hauntingly beautiful in the sense that he now finally gets to be with his true love in the after life.

I love this audio, this is exactly the sort of thing I look for when I’m feeling stressed, sad, scared, generally overwhelmed by life and need to break out of my own head and fall into something/somewhere else. A different story than the one I’m living. But then… this song. Lol, it’s a beautiful song, the Loreena McKennitt version periodically pops into my head because it’s just that lovely and haunting… but I’m maybe an odd one out in having always considered this a deeply creepy, vaguely ominous song? 😂 (I mean, it does end with a visiting ghost promising “it won’t be long until our wedding day” with the pretty clear implication that that’s ‘cause his death is imminent, which… uhm… yeah, lol.) Don’t get me wrong though, that honestly only makes me like this audio better, the man who’d try to soothe me to sleep by singing a spooky ghost story would definitely be the man of my dreams and it’s something I’ve only now discovered I want… It’s a rare audio that legitimately teaches me something new about myself. 😁
