📚Tips & Tricks: Sketching I📚

I use Photoshop cc 2018 so if you have another program, finding similar tools will do just the same❤

Tools you will need:

Dry Media & Watercolour brushes: https://www.adobe.com/ca/products/photoshop/brushes.html?promoid=XKMMHH6G&mv=other

Step 1:

To begin, I try to sketch lightly and visually map out shapes! Try to zoom out and see your whole canvas then sketch confident quick lines! It helps to get the overall feel of the composition and gets your ideas down / trashed faster. (Trashed - "To move on to a better idea you may have" ). Also it is kinder on your hands x_X

Have a horizontal flip shortcut hot key. It will save your life. Consistently use it in earlier stages!

Step 2:

As I progress, I am defining the details and getting rid of guide lines. If you do not want to get rid of your guidelines,  just duplicate the layer and keep cleaning it up in the new layer!
Important: Your eraser is your second brush! Use it to create lines your brush can not!

Note I have not zoomed in yet! As I refine, I put more pressure on my brushstrokes, mentally it means I'm coming to a conclusion. Physically it means I am putting weight variety in the line-work, and it feels nice with this brush!

Step 3:

Using the watercolour brush, I make a new layer to "colour" tones with a BLACK. SO. This brush is quite special. To get the consistent texture look, you have to colour the entire area you are filling without lifting your pen. KEEP IN MIND THAT YOUR PEN PRESSURE HAS TO BE CONSISTENT. Basically like an actual watercolour brush that dries fast! The more pressure you put the more richer / fuller the colour will be.

Play with that!

Step 4:

Once I fill in the face/hair, I go between zooming in and out. After I merge like a mofo, I add a clean up / refining layer for small details like eyes / hair strands / roseyness uwu!

I now use grey tones vs just a black for his face. For his hair I still used black. And that's on pen pressure☕✨

These days I like adding shadows in circular motion / shapes!  But that's just a preference! DO YOU BO O BO O O  ~(  ♥J♥)~

Step 5:

Add moe and Voila you have a baby Jools (づ。◕ J◕。)づ ♥

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope this helps! Remember you can apply these in soooo many different ways, experiment and have fun! AND DON'T GIVE UP!♥
Feel free to ask any questions! ♥

So you use watercolor brushes! Interesting, I've been wondering how you get those textures... Thank you for teaching us your ways! I use Clip Studio Paint Pro and My process is similar to yours but my artwork is NOWHERE NEAR as good as yours. The detail in is hair is A++ the flyaway hair strands is such a brilliant touch of realism. You never fail to disappoint me!
