Hi Simon. Even regular black depends on the brand and pigments used. When I say natural black it is more of the "black" used in art. Traditionally old painters would use pigments and mix them. Noways, even in traditional painting we have so many options and I still find tones in better value and more rich when you mix them with intention. For example as those yellows are very soft. For black used with them I used Burnt Sienna and Prussian blue. I had more of Prussian blue in mix to make tone colder. But if I wanted to go even darker I could use Raw Umbra (it is more greenish brown) with Prussian blue and get even deeper tone of black. But that would be too strong for my blacks here. Etc.. we will be going trough all of it with tutorials each month. There will be a lot of different choices and interpretations. :)

Hi Aleksandra and Marko. Watching this again and its even better this time. Can you elaborate on how you make “natural black”? Which colours can you use and how does it work compare to just regular black?

Simon Andersen

Hi , thx for your suggestion, im testing both posibilities. Im seeing lahmian convert the paint a little bit in oil. Now im start to use wet palette and im getting very good results with water, but lahmian for metalic color still having good results(since i learn the non metalic world😂) Regards

Javier, try using a retarder medium (Lahmian Medium if buying from gw) instead of water - note that you'll need less of it! - For wet blending this is extremely useful to have "on hand" as well!

Zachary Rucker

Hi guys, is this a miliput sculpted base? Thanks!

Neil Blake

Heheh, glad you like "hand palette" as well. I am using wet palette. Always. As it is most efficient way to have your paints last longer and work properly. We will try to bring all of it and cover those topics this month as it is important having it available. For paints, you want to dilute it to be very thin, I am using only water. And I will cover this as well in some posts. :)

Thanks Ramona :)

Hi, I have a question (because I have a problem :-) ). I try start use this technic but my paints became dry very fast in the miniature and also in the palette. Its impossible to make a second layer mixin color because are dry. I try use a little bit of water in the mixure but paint loses the color so much.(GW paints since arrives scale 75 i ordered) Do you use wet palette? Do you use some thinner? Thx. Note. I start to use the "hand" as palette and it's marvelous, I look like a profession with hands full of colors 😂

I love this technique - How would this work, for example, with a "blue" marine? Underpainted with Green, Purple...Yellow? Thanks.

Neil Blake
