IMPORTANT: Youtube has been having processing errors for the past hour or so (their fault, not mine). So the YouTube discussion isn't working at this exact moment. There are seven gates because, as you said, it's a test of strength, hence the name "Testing Gate" Killua could push 16 tons (open 3 gates) while neither Gon, Kurapika nor Leorio could open even one of the gates (2 tons). That gives you a good idea of Killua's strength when compared to the rest.
