Hey spherical, love the reaction. some notes about Volleyball for you (they gloss over the rules gradually it in the anime, but it’s hard to fully absorb it compared to manga where u have time to process what you’re reading) 3 touch rule: Each team has a maximum of 3 touches of the ball per “possession”. The final touch must be sent over the net or you lose a point. *Usually*, the 1st is a high comfortable touch, the 2nd touch is the setter who “sets the ball up” to be hit, and the 3rd is a spike. Setter: Because of this sequence, the setter is ALWAYS the person that you want to have the 2nd touch, so they can give a good toss to the spiker. The Setter usually positions himself in the front-centre, close to the net (imagine trying to set the ball up for a spiker if you’re behind him, that would be hard af). btw you mentioned it in the discussion, in haikyuu, there’s only one setter in each team’s starting 6. Block/one touch: any touch of the ball over the net by the defending team doesn’t count as one of the 3 touches. If the ball gets blocked and hits the ground of the other side, it’s a point (you definitely knew this already). If the ball hits the block and flies somewhere the defending team can’t follow up for a touch, it’s the spiker’s point. Chance ball: When the other team can’t set the ball up for a spike within the first 2 touches, so they just send an “easy”, floaty ball over the net. Thus, your team would not have to receive/block a tough spike, and would have a “chance” to attck easily. That’s what haikyuu calls a chance ball. In the US I think it’s called a “free ball”.
