EARLY ACCESS - Hunter x Hunter Episode 112 Reaction

(read after watching the discussion):

So after being able to look back at the episode while editing, I've actually changed my opinion on a couple of things that happened in that final scene. For one; I think the reason why Pitou was crying was actually because of the fact that the King was relying on her in such a crucial moment, and the fact that he seemed really sincere when he told Pitou to heal Komugi.

On that note, I am not as sure that Komugi is dead as I originally thought. Of course, she LOOKS pretty dead, but since Pitou pulled out Dr. Blythe it must mean that she believes Komugi can be healed. Although of course - as with all things - we'll probably find out some answers with the next episode.

Today's discussion really makes my hxh heart proud :)

When Zeno fought Chrollo, he used dragon head/dragon lance with an additional Chinese name written on the screen as well. That's why I mentioned in the previous post that all of the dragon/Chinese themed moves are Zeno's lol. It's why Killua is the only one who understood. Also, when it comes to HxH, I think the series takes a lot of risks. The reason why you may not think it's "perfect" is because a lot of minor plots are used to set up something crazy later on. The way everything comes together is simply unique. It has the highest highs I've seen.

When it comes to Chinese/Korean/Japanese literature, the whole martial art thing has a tonne of tropes that may seem foreign to Westerners. "Walking between your enemies" is always thought of as something ill-advised and is a trope used to show confidence. Then there's the whole "initiative" that you've commented on as well in the reaction. The time compression thing is also seen in wuxia and the likes.

Let's take a moment to appreciate Meruem's character arc. When he was introduced he appeared to be the cookie cutter evil bad guy with a short temper and no depth. Now we are at a point that when the one person he cares about the most gets hurt he is able to calm himself down, prioritize her health, treat Pitou not as a servant but almost as a friend (his I'm counting on you brings Pitou to tears), and then is able to show appreciation for Komugi's attackers because they stopped. They could have kept attacking and they would have put Komugi in great danger but they didn't. So Meruem returns the favor and proposes something beneficial to them and spares their lives (doesn't take both of their heads off) as he walks past them. The fact that togashi was able to take a character from that point to this point without it feeling abrupt it's a testament to the way he gradually/methodically develops characters.
