This is the shounen power up, the protagonist turning super sayian, but instead of it being presented as a heroic triumphant moment is the horrifying descend of a 13 year old into an abyss of grief and anger. Gon becomes a monster for revenge. That screeching violin when Gon charges up the first jajaken is straight out of a horror movie. We get a call back to phinks at the end of the yorknew arc when he mentions that they can't kill kurapika until they remove his nen bc nen can become stronger after death. Gon also uses Kurapika's concept of restrictions and conditions to the very extreme. What a fucking episode of television.
