I erased all my music and started over.

I felt like I needed to start over, returning to the mindset I had when I first got into electronic music. At the beginning of this journey, everything was shrouded in the fog of war. I didn’t really have any clue where I was going or what to do; I just knew what a good sound sounded like. Now, after years of repetition and exploration, I have learned obscure genres like rumble techno, melodic tech-house, and minimal techno. I am ready to return home to the beginning. Back to the 3 pieces of equipment rule, back to sampling my guitar and voice more, and back to exploring sounds and lots of sampling. I have erased all my projects from my machines and gathered a new sample library of percussion one-shots for my Digitakt, and I am already off to the races. I feel unburdened and excited again to try and write the best music I can with less gear complicating my journey.

What are your thoughts?

Best,

Matt

I was just thinking this recently. I was taking a brief break from all my hardware in general... and then I began to think, "what if I only did 'trios' of gear?" Sometimes I force making these crazy elaborate MIDI setups with tons of gear and FX but if I can pare it down to 1 rhythm, 1 melody and 1FX with 1 common sequencer, maybe I would be more focused and generate a lot faster and freer. I could then break up the other gear in to similar trios and the variations would give me new approaches to try.

Go you! Looking forward to hearing what comes out next from your creative brain!
