Listen to Let the blame game begin on pod save America!! Those guys know their shit and have a similar view to you but include interesting context and take a more nuanced approach to idea that dems have failed to help the working class. They talk about Bernie and other dems statements on the election too.

Juliette

I feel you from Idaho! Sending lots of love, proud of you for your work šŸ’™šŸ’™šŸ’™

missouri binchie here… missouri just passed an amendment to get rid of ranked choice voting🄲 they basically tricked people into voting to pass the ban by attaching a measure to the amendment to ā€œonly allow US citizens to voteā€ (which of course was already the law). so when people read the amendment on their ballot, they saw the part about only allowing US citizens to vote and voted yes without realizing it also banned ranked choice voting (the US citizen part was the first thing listed in the amendment). It was so disheartening to see how easy it was for them to manipulate people into voting against their own interests by attaching a ridiculous red herring

girl my point is the whole system is fucked to the core I am echoing exactly what Julia and Eliza said

Katie

As someone who lived in Missouri where abortion and minimum wage passed on the ballot but Dems lost, you’re so wrong for this take. A super left leftist would never in a million years win a statewide election here in Missouri. I hate takes like this. Unless you live in a super red state or have actively worked on campaigns or volunteered to knock doors in states like mine, you really have no clue the widespread animosity and hatred red state folks have towards Dems and I promise if they were openly socialist or whatever it would be a thousand times worse lmao

don't 100% agree with this ep, but i do commend your commitment to staying empathetic & kind & altruistic. ily girlies. idk if it's my age but i fear that the other side will never lend us the same degree of understanding. but does that matter? philosophically, you're right. i also request that we all put our little STEMstresses hats on and deep dive into the world of tech bro billionaires, because this is one political aspect that we do NOT have to consider here in the EU but i think very much affected this election. those tech bros with their transhumanism have some insane visions about the world, and the fund$ to get a bit insane with them. those bitches are ready for us to literally die. they're buying bunkers and going to space and trying to iive till 700. never mind whatever eugenistic shit jeffrey epstein was on. and now their king is your new president's right-hand man

saiju

Yeah, currently most of my friends i’ve made in the past few years have similar views than me. I do want to move to the west side though! I did not realize spokane had such a large queer community.

Carolyn

It definitely helps to have large groups of leftist friends stay in the city after graduation, it feels like that's one of the main things that has made Spokane more purple than red

Kaley Alness

(and sure maybe me and my friends got called slurs outside the gay bar last week but our current mayor is a democrat which is something!)

Kaley Alness

Awe, that makes me so happy for you. I’m from the tricities, and I do find it hard to find people who align with my views, so much that i’m moving after I graduate college.

Carolyn

Actually I've lived in Spokane for a decade now and it's pretty mixed! There's certainly pockets of both conservatism and liberalism in different neighborhoods, but we absolutely have thriving leftist and queer communities!!

Kaley Alness

this is so interesting…….

Check out governor andy beshear from KY!!! āœŠšŸ»

What the Democrats did to Bernie is similar to what happened to Corbyn in the UK. Our Labour party is now waaay more centrist. We have a labour government but they're barely left wing. Corbyn was destroyed in the media and party because the rich were scared of him

Eve Abdel-Moneim

Yes! I feel like in my area soooo many people are in disbelief about the U.S. election when literally the same dynamic is playing out here

Totally agree with most of what you said, however as a lifelong Californian, I wouldn’t say that SF and LA are ā€œfalling apartā€, they just have a lot of the same issues that other major cities have. However due to the population being so much denser the issues are more obvious. Saying that SF and LA are falling apart in my experience has been a transplant and suburban point of view

Maddy

i am begging you ladies to do a reddit stories ep i need the lols in this trying time

Gabriela Kauffman

Saw a trump flag go up in my neighbourhood (I’m in Canada). Then I saw two. It’s insane how people support him here too

Athena111

Unfortunately this right-wing ideology reverberates and reaches Canada too. We now have Pierre Poilievre (our version of trump but less senile and buddies with a few white nationalists) and a liberal party that constantly fumbles the bag. Not good. This guy also doesn’t want women to have access to birth control. On top of that not enough people vote NDP or cast their vote for liberals instead under the gueise of ā€œstrategic votingā€ so this trump win has a lot of Canadians scared.

Athena111

Hi friends, just a suggestion to support local initiatives for ranked choice voting or start one if there is not already. We deserve better than 2 parties that do not represent the interests of the people and we have to organize to get it. Love and solidarity to you all!

Kirsten Drehobl

I won't lie I have told quite a few trumpers to off themselves but I'll try to explain to them why they are so horribly wrong now I guess! ty

boots

as a leftist living and organizing in the reddest state in America (yay Wyoming!) I want to give extra support to what y'all said about most of us having similar core interests and needing to reach out to people with opposing beliefs! I have no choice but to interact with and talk to people who have wildly different beliefs than I do, and most of us have the same core concerns and desires- be able to afford our lives; be able to raise families safely and affordably; be free from the government dictating our day-to-day actions; be able to make our communities better, safer, and happier; and protect our land from massive corporate development (that one might be Wyoming-specific lmao). We disagree on how to achieve those goals, but I've found that once people understand that I want the same basic things as them, we can have real conversations. It's allowed me to get more centrist/libertarian people in my community to at least warm up to progressive ideas and see us as community members and not enemies, and it's definitely made me a kinder and smarter person. I also want to shout out an incredible progressive Wyoming state representative!! Karlee Provenza is one of our state reps, is one of the only people in our statehouse who consistently fights for reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, public education, low-income assistance programs, public land protection, and Indigenous rights, and she won her election by a massive amount- I think about 70%!! Even in a state that voted over 75% for Trump there are still local politicians who are successfully rallying for progressive causes :,)

Hannah

I will be taking notes from the monkeys who escaped the lab as a woman living in South Carolina

alyssa

there are a lot of southern democrats and leftists who don't suck in govt! as many others have said andy beshear is an incredibly popular governor in ky. even tuesday, shomari figures was elected house rep in alabama. georgia has two democratic senators!!! lots of dem politicians in the south have come close (like charles booker) but the voter suppression and gerrymandering is so insane down here... don't write off the south.....

Kathryn Copeland

if she wasn't a woman and if I wasn't so desperate to keep her as our governor, Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan) would be a great candidate bc even though she isn't "southern" she's midwestern and very much a champion of the "everyman." republicans HATE her though bc she cares about public health lol. but in this country, where the supreme court is repealing all federal protections, and states' rights are coming into play more, I want to keep her as the Michigan governor as long as possible lol

Leah

This is exactly it. Many democrats shut down any negative speech against ourselves because they are too worried about the look of it all. But we will never get better without self awareness! Also, the only southern democrat who i think would even have a chance is Jeff Jackson. I’m in NC and many republicans and democrats alike love and voted for him.

Anna Young

Great point MK, to me it seems like getting stuck in the liberal mindset of sweeping things under the rug. Though these last two elections it feels risky to loudly share dissatisfactions about the dems before elections because it feels like the right is actively trying to strip away protections for women, LGBT, etc. But re: your earlier comment, you’re not shouting into the void, we hear you and it’s a point worth sharing!

Kayla

milly stephenson

Thank you I needed to hear this and great recommendation:)

Rylee Nelsen

Exactly, we can't let this extinguish our fire and need to channel our anxiety and fear into helping build up our local communities and take this time to focus on grass roots organizations. Life is unfair and hard but there is a way forward !

Rylee Nelsen

this is true! i see that happen a lot w some of my southern acquaintances/friends

Bella Romero

I really hope he runs 2028!!

Abi Clarke

There are definitely more liberal Christian’s out there too who use the Bible to back up liberal policies but they are always ousted by the community and it’s so sad.

Abi Clarke

Yes, I’m from the east side, and everywhere I go i see trump flags and sometimes don’t tread on my flags.

Carolyn

Agree! My family is mostly from couer dlane which is technically idea but Spokane and Spokane valley are very conservative

Abi Clarke

Exactly! He kept it simple and people ate that shit up without researching 😭 but people trust him because he’s a populist

Abi Clarke

Love this! I’d love for you to talk about why some people don’t vote Trump. Like yes I’m having trouble affording life and especially so as a mom of 2 with a husband in school (so for starters the board of education going away also means good by our Pell grant) But also his connection with Elon musk and these terrible leaders. Like I fear people are selling us out in the name of ā€œaffordabilityā€ but really.. things will never be THAT livable due to our trillion dollar debt which trump heavily contributed to during his presidency. The fact of the matter is we want it to be 12Ā¢ for a dozen eggs and 250k for a house but it’ll just never be like that again. I fear with the rhetoric being spread by Trump and Christian nationalists we may be heading towards a state similar to Russia and china. I think that’s definitely something the Democratic Party needs to identify and address in order to show how badly this Trump presidency is going to affect us. Overall you guys hit it on the nose. My dad’s big reasoning for voting Trump was that he’s not acting as a coastal elite. He wants to focus on what’s important to the common people and he won’t back down and that’s appealing to those people that really admire ā€œgritā€ whether or not it involves transparency and integrity. And unfortunately my dads really smart so it’s sad to see his lame excuses for voting for Trump but you really made it more palatable to accept even though this country will definitely get worse in the next 4 years.

Fellow Southern binchie holding it down — thanks for your work fighting for collective freedom! Happy to hear a Southern mutual aid shoutout from Eliza too.

Quinn

Loved y’alls nuanced conversation on differences in leftist vs. liberal politics and the differences in which each position and think about republicans. I’ve lived in the Deep South and later Texas my whole life, and it’s shocking to see the way liberals here are paralyzed and demonizing republicans, and more leftist oriented folks are just continuing to lay down hard roots with mutual aid and organizing. In my experience mutual aid is an incredible tool in political conversations (and in action!!!) to re-focus on what’s important (re: providing resources for people)… and with time has the potential to change folks political inclination. Thanks for the shout out to organizing in the South Eliza — it can be a shit show down here, but there’s solidarity in the struggle. Thanks as always for a balm of an episode! Extra: I started reading David Graeber in an economic anthropology class in college. His book Debt really began to shatter my world when I read it at 20. His work is beefy usually, but he does a brilliant job of trying to make sense of our world.

Quinn

i understand what you mean. to me, the pod generates thousands of $ a month on patreon, they understand the reach of their platform and yet choose silence about the misinformation concerning american politics until after election day. this episode jumps on a bandwagon of yt women avoiding guilt and virtue signaling acting like they have always been on the right side of history. unfortunately this is simply my option and only a comment on patreon, so there’s no need to defend the hosts- they defend themselves by choosing silence on major current issues until it’s popular. they could make an impact, all of us can by being honest!

MK

I get that. This community for better or for worse is an echo chamber in and of itself, so it’s hard to say if Binchtopia hosts would make much of an impact by making a comment on your original gripe.

Nika Kovis

slayed this one

Meri

Woah I hadn’t considered this before but I think you’re right. Super insightful

Maggie

the morning of the 6th after waking up to the news I texted my dad, who doesn't live in the US, if he'd seen any headlines about our election and he simply said "no. is it trump? didn't see any news but I was speculating" like he didn't even know but he still guessed correctly lolll :/

that almost reference by Eliza was crazy, really reeled that one back in

I want to second this. I think we're overlooking the fact she was a simply a brown woman. I think if they had run a loud, cognizant 60 - 75-year-old white man saying the same things as Kamala, he would have crushed. Right-wing influencers have been putting in the work to court young, undecided men and women afraid of being impolite or who feel like politics are too complicated. I don't even think most people who voted Republican realize this influenced their decision. They just felt in their gut a man would handle the economy better and brown woman wouldn't protect their way of life.

Malaika Powell

yall never miss

Emily

keep thinking about how many places voted for leftist policies like abortion protections and workers rights while also voting for trump.. its cause the dems are fucking centrist cowards and there is no opportunity for liberation within a system built on imperialism 🫔

Katie

Eliza’s been on tour, so they pre-recorded a lot of the video eps

KE

binchy queens tysm for this episode, I have been reflecting on my anger w liberals and the whole imperialist system…I could go on and on but it feels validating to hear parallel views from smart women whose opinions I value

Katie

Democrats don’t know how to explain anything without being condescending, and in many cases don’t care to explain their positions at all. Trump was able to give people simple language for his ā€œeconomic planā€ even though it was all lies and bullshit. If Dems had put more effort into breaking down how their economic agenda would actually tackle the problems working class families face in a way that’s easy to understand and in a way that’s not talking down to people, I think we’d be in a much different situation.

I think this loss also has so much to do with the fact that Kamala was essentially offered up as a sacrificial lamb. Biden was going to lose, and she had less than 100 days to run a full campaign. Meanwhile Trump has been running campaign for a decade straight. People know him, and I think a lot of people who support him don’t really take the things he says seriously. Unfortunately, many of his supporters will suffer the most from his economic agenda. Democrats need a full on reorganization and we need to lay the responsibility at Biden’s feet, and his advisors. He never should have run again.

Thank u for this ep, on an entirely other note I NEED to hear y’all speak on The Substance. Looking forward to the mediasode!!

Recommend the book ā€œwe have never been woke: the cultural contradictions of a new eliteā€ by musa al-gharbi. Touches upon & expands on everything talked about in this episode. It’s helped me with my understanding of what happened with this election. Another book is ā€œparty of the people: inside the multiracial populist coalition remaking the gopā€.

Sean Clark

I’m a pregnant immigration attorney in Florida — the reality of the next four years is so scary 🫠 But you have simultaneous made me feel slightly better by rationalizing how the American majority came to this decision. Completely agree that the Dems need a real reckoning

Anastasia K

hi, thank you for posting this org!! I’m a Maine and Boston binchie so I spend a lot of time in NH. Also I second Kate Glavan, her videos have really helped me make sense of what’s going on!

Lily Ana Verna

I was looking at the election map again and realized I was wrong about the popular vote % thing, I was reading the numbers wrong, but the point still stands!!

Lily Ana Verna

especially because surveys of swing voters said they didn’t vote for her because she was too liberal/radical on social issues. just by existing in the body she does people will deem her as too radical no matter what words come out of her mouth

kayla

so... palestine ep when...

Rivaa

In Missouri it was really weird because we went red all the way down the ticket but then passed abortion rights and workers rights amendments that our state government is absolutely going to appeal and pass restrictions for. We always vote for progressive policies and then put Josh Hawley in the senate anyway. Sigh

Meg K

Needed to hear y’all speak on this thank you!!!!

Meg K

really glad you two are posting and speaking about palestine openly now

Kaya Shafer

I’m from a solid blue state (WA), and if you drive outside of seattle even a little bit, you get to conservative towns. It’s the same with Oregon and Portland. Both states are ā€˜coastal elite’ states and are still so conservative, you just won’t see it if you’re only in Seattle or Portland.

Carolyn

This helped me not feel so much dread thank you 😭

Kathryn

Before the left starts whipping themselves for this loss too much, I do hope we don’t start acting like issues around race, gender (ā€œidentity politicsā€) are only for elitists. A trans person in NY who voted for Harris cuz they want their rights protected isn’t really anymore elitist or rich than a swing voter in PA who voted for Trump. Identity politics rose out of the same place that concerns of inflation did: people’s need for change. Let’s not swing too hard in the other direction and do better for 2029

G

The fear-mongering around voting 3rd party really stressed me out but I honestly don’t regret voting for Claudia De la Cruz and idk if I could say the same if I had voted for Kamala

Ann

YESSS ZOZOBRA SHOUTOUT!! thats what the burning effigy in new mexico is called and i always feel insane explaining it to people from other states but i 10/10 recommend we need more communal, cathartic burning of things

Angelicia Ochoa-Rivera

we need to stop sleeping on the importance of the south!! i work in education policy for a civil rights org in the south and we always use the WEB DuBois quote ā€œas the South goes, so goes the nationā€ when talking to funders about the importance of investing in the critical work that happens here. there’s a whole ecosystem of us fighting for the collective freedom of our neighbors :-)

It’s also totally WHY both parties keep us suffering; so they can do whatever horrible shit they want knowing we can’t do anything about it bcs we’re exhausted trying to survive !!! Ugh ughghgh

I have a tip for the holidays coming up: when those inevitable confrontational/heated discussions happen at the family dinner table, you can diffuse it with something that is both true and emotionally mature: ā€œLife is hard for most people these days, let’s do our best to choose to focus on the good and what is in our control, and hope he does a good job.ā€ ā¤ļø the boomers will be shonked, trust me 🤣

omg do you have instagram? i love connecting with nh binchies! mine is @bellaa.romero

Bella Romero

I want to scream this episode from the rooftops. Perfectly put in every way

Teagan

i was raised republican (my mom voted for kamala, changed her political party affiliation etc. and i am so proud of her growth). anyways i was a trump supporter in 2016 so i kind of have a unique perspective on this stuff. luckily i was in high school + 15 yrs old so its not like i could vote. nevertheless this is obviously an incredibly embarrassing fact about myself. but at the end of the day, it came down to my social conditions. i was being fed right wing media from a young age and being rewarded for having that knowledge by the adults in my life. it didn’t matter that i am a black woman and am very much gay. i was basically brainwashed by conservative christian values, existing in an echo chamber w my christian peers, and was acutely aware of my mom’s right wing beliefs. tbh if it weren’t for the left leaning people in my life consistently planting seeds in me i probably would’ve never left the church or adopted leftist ideologies, or it would’ve taken me much longer to get there. i also lived in tennessee for five years and have a lot more compassion and understanding for the south. their education fucking sucks bc it is underfunded. not to mention most of their history is only taught from the oppressor’s perspective. i really don’t think it’s fair to write southerners off as ā€œdumb,ā€ ā€œracist,ā€ ā€œignorant,ā€ or unredeemable bc there are a lot of great people doing important work in the south. anyways i love yall - i hope any of this perspective helps literally at all.

Bella Romero

thank u for sharing recs fellow nh binchy!!! šŸ«¶šŸ»

julia!

i recommend any binchies follow kate glavan as a resource - she is a micro influencer who studied politics and law. she has been making more political videos lately that are really educational and comprehensive so i def recommend!

Bella Romero

i work in nh politics and even new england isn’t safe from red ideologies. we have a republican majority in our state house and our new governor is a trump/maga cronie. this is how it starts and spreads unfortunately. i left tennessee with my partner for a safer environment (im a black lesbian and ellie is trans/has type 1 diabetes) and we’re barely any safer here. dems just aren’t organized in the same way republicans are and its so sad to see happen in my home state. as of rn i have no idea what to do or where to go from here but luckily i have amazing coworkers and i know we’ll figure it out and fight like hell. (our org is called 603 forward we are an AMAZING resource for any nh binchies. we post educational stuff, identify actions you can take, host community events, and mobilize young people across nh)

Bella Romero

There are Southern leftists, but I think y’all are right about there not being a ton of Southern dems left… People on the left living in red states understand that the elitist approach is not going to sway the working class. I’m from AL, but I live in MO now and I feel like our election was so indicative of how Americans feel right now; we passed an abortion referendum, a vote for higher minimum wage, while also voting for basically all red candidates. There was also a state amendment that used ā€œbanning non-citizen votersā€ (which is already illegal) as a means of banning rank-choice voting, which fucking sucks. I’m trying not to be cynical, but I have zero idea how we move towards progressive policy without some type of campaign finance reform. The two party system clearly doesn’t work, but it doesn’t seem like either party is going to stop making money in order to make the country more equitable.

Anna Peters

I think people who can’t afford food, rent, medicine etc have trouble caring about something happening on the other side of the world

avvsies

I loved this episode and agree with everything you said ā™„ļø I really recommend the podcast revolutionary left radios latest episode about the election ā€œshattering the spectacleā€ for more of this sentiment and their ideas for building power outside the Democratic Party

Stephanie

Same with comments about people who didn’t get the Covid vax. Many black people didn’t get it because of the historical abuse on black people from the CDC. Why would they trust us?

ZOZOBRA!!! Such a liberating and beautiful time in New Mexico!!

Dayree RamĆrez

The dems absolutely shit the bed with Palestine, especially by not inviting Palestinian speakers to the DNC. I live in metro Detroit with a large Muslim and Arabic populations and huge numbers of democratic men from those groups simply did not vote (the women, of course, showed up tho) because they couldn’t put their trust behind leaders who continue to provide support to Israel

Melissa O'Keefe

I really love and agree with your takes in this ep. Sending so much love to my binchies in the US from this Canadian binchie (whose country is facing our own right wing populist, Pierre Poilievre…)

Siobhan Carroll

I’d been feeling really bad and terrified for the future and even though I still feel sick about the next 4 years and their impact on the climate & human rights etc. I needed this dose of reality that this episode offered. There IS a path forward and we can all be involved with it on the local level, connecting with people, building class solidarity through recognition of material needs. I’m hoping that as the oligarchs continue to loot this country for everything it’s got there might be some recognition and we can gain traction by focusing on trump as the new establishment and yeah like y’all said going mask tf off. Disinformation is a doooozy but if we are not complacent we still have a shot at getting through to people

Greta

listening to this from germany to distract myself from our own government falling apart 🤩

julie

I’m just another California binch but a friend who did college in the south was fond of a meme that said ā€œdont make me tap the sign, people in red states don’t deserve the negative consequences of policies enacted by their oppressors, stop using them as a scapegoat for the countries problemsā€ Also I live in Germany like yes the afd (Nazi watchlist) won 2 state legislatures but its coalition rule with like 7 parties so they’re gonna fight them with the rule book as only Germans can. Oh and part of it is the Libertarian party basically collapsed thru state elections and got fired from the coalition. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Maggie Asher

I just want to say that in Europe we still vote for people not parties. In France all parties have one person they nominate (inside of the party I don't think people not register can vote) then they run for president. Even coalition do the same thing, they decide in advance which candidate they are going to support

Clara

Yes to there is no left party omg!!! I am french canadian and I’ve been in France for 2 months and half for a semester abroad. The French are woke af if you think about it. Even their most right wing party would NEVER challenge the idea of free education, free healthcare and social housing. When I realized that it definitely put things in perspective especially in the context of the American election.

Nora Bedard

Fr I have been thinking that all week. Have democrats realized it's not a 'stupidy' thing it's literally just highlighing the privelege democrats/the middle/upper middle class have to 'look beyond' the price of eggs and milk. The NYT posted an interesting interview on the run-up with a Trump voter who wholeheartedly said she doesn't support Trump or what he believes but she had to be selfish because her economic conditions are bad. College educated people not only make more money in many cases, but come from middle class backgrounds where they (we) do not have to focus on bare necessities. And then we right people off as selfish for focusing on those necessities. The democratic party has abandoned us all. They have traded human rights (and lives!!) for a conservative agenda and oil/pharmacy/war lobbyists

Sarah Bowen

i believe she was talking about Palestine, but not sure

clairevalley

totally agree with most of what was said but I think it's also worth noting that we do not live in a post-racial world and kamala is a black and south asian woman who went to an hbcu instead of a traditional ivy league. while she definitely could've run a stronger campaign in some ways, those factors definitely already made her "too radical" or unqualified in a lot of people's minds.

Corinne Thomas

^^^this!!!

Emma Kay

I will say, yes, democrats have done a terrible job with running cities/states BUT never forget that most of the poorest states in America are red states. I lived in Mississippi for 6 years and every level of government was notoriously corrupt and dysfunctional. We had boil water notices for months at a time due to ancient led pipes in the water system and the money to improve that infrastructure was embezzled 🤪

So well said, ladies šŸ‘šŸ» We gotta look hard in the mirror with humility. I grew up in Oklahoma and I remember the Republican adults I grew up around always were annoyed with people from big cities who looked down on the Midwest….sometimes for good reason, but the judgement is definitely alienating to red states. I’m new to the left, having deconstructed much of my right political ideology since 2020. It feels so good to see a party that aligns more with my values, but it’s helpful to hear y’all’s opinions as long time left-leaning gals.

Emma Kay

also so sick of people posting the polling demographics breakdown showing that people with advanced college degrees were more likely to vote democratic as an elitist gotcha point… all it proves is that the democrats have stopped even pretending to care about the working class this is on their hands

aileen

I agree with a lot of this, but if anything this election has shown that the working class are centrists on the political spectrum. I personally support Palestinian liberation but the fact is that most of the U.S. doesn’t or doesn’t care, so I think it’s misguided to suggest that a resolution with Israel would have made Democrats more appealing to the working class. It’s difficult to accept that liberation is still very much a leftist belief, not shared by the majority of people in America.

This 2003 video of Bernie floating around is well worth a watchā£ļø https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCFRbDNNGSJ/?igsh=OGthcnkwOXNuOXB5

I’m so glad you guys are saying this! I’ve been feeling insane seeing liberals post shit like ā€œI hope everyone who voted for trump’s family gets deportedā€ and shit. It’s so evil and elitist and just proves Republican’s points about liberals. I really hope it’s time for a huge reckoning and realignment in the Democratic Party, or we’ll never win again.

re: tim walz, i'm from Minnesota and he is pretty universally respected for giving free lunches to all students. policy proposals like that are so simple and actually resonate with voters regardless of party identity. makes me so made that they neutered him and chose to promise absolutely nothing to voters.

k

Nobody is taking away our rights to vote or a free and fair election anytime soon. @thejordonbrown made a really good TikTok the other day about what it takes to ratify the constitution and add amendments. Republicans simply do not have the numbers to make such significant changes on their own, even though they control every branch now. Giving 18 year olds the right to vote took 8 years and that was considered really fast. It eased my anxieties about that part of this horror so I recommend anyway watch it! No doubt voter suppression will continue to occur but your constitutional right to vote is not going anywhere.

Hannah

Great episode

People love calling the south dumb racist hillbillies but fail to realize that’s where the majority of black people in the US live.

Kaylen

Sooooo true I am so tired of the hypocritical holier than thou mentality democrats and leftists have

lucy h

thank you for pointing out the coastal elitism thing too!! so many people here in New England write off people from "red states" (especially in the south) and act like they're stupid, it's so unfair for many reasons of course. Also a lot of the so called "deep red" states had a higher % of popular votes for Harris than Massachusetts and New York did

Lily Ana Verna

no it was SOO incredibly sickening to see just how many people voted for him, now that we all know full well how horrible he is, what he's done, what he represents. but at the same time I sadly wasn't shonked at all that he won, like the democrats need to get their shit together too, and everyone needs to be moving in a better direction

Lily Ana Verna

ā€œPeople go towards damaging beliefs when they’re hurting. And it doesn’t mean that they’re ontologically evil.ā€ Julia aaate

thank you saying what we’ve all been thinking queens šŸ™ im also horrified by the fact that california didnt pass the prop to end involuntary servitude, i was so excited to see that on the ballot bc i thought for sure it would pass and things could change :/

*nick garros voice* neeeeded thiiissssss… Seriously thank you binchies. I think it’s hard to blame the dems—whom my parents get really attached to and who I used to identify with—as failing us, the American people, but I think that’s kind of where I’m at, there’s more nuance there obv, but yeah, it’s hard, it really fucking sucks. Thanks for all that you do and thanks to this community for being so slay <33

Thank you so much for speaking on the complete neutering of the Democratic Party's policies in favor of appealing to the wealthy/coastal elites. I feel like I spent the better half of the last few months screaming into the void, begging for this Administration to stand up for the marginalized communities they claim to stand for. Instead, we're fed lukewarm, centrist platitudes from a party that consistently fails to enact significant structural change for the average American citizen. People just want healthcare, the eradication of student debt, access to repro rights, housing, etc. but god forbid we do any of that for fear of appearing "communist." I hate Donald Trump from the bottom of my heart, but I resent the Democratic suits who've stood idly by in the face of unspeakable evil and expect us to turn the left cheek because "at least we're not the nutjob narcissistic baby hitler." - (idk if i need to clarify this but i am a leftist and i did vote for kamala, i am just venting)

Maria Alvarado

This is literally everything I’ve been thinking the last 8 years. Thank you.
