Night Sky Highlights, Aug.-Nov. 2025 (Patreon Bonus Video, August 2025)

For the August 2025 Patreon bonus video, I cover some of the highlights of the night sky over the next few months for both hemispheres. The main focus is deep sky imaging, but I also check out the planets and a couple comets.

I shoot the Andromeda galaxy once a year in the fall to track my progress in capturing and processing it. Sometimes I think I'm stuck and not really progressing at all, then I re-shoot or reprocess something like that and it gives a much clearer perspective. Really excited to shoot the Rosette nebula this fall and I'll give the Dark Shark a go, didn't know about that till now, thanks and keep up the awesome work Nico!

Great video. I will be in Big Bend NP during the Nov new moon. Going to hunt some of the targets you suggest. :-)

Looking forward to the lunar eclipse on 8 September!

That sounds tough since you would be at f/10. If you can do at least 30” subexposures without star trailing, and you were centered on the brightest part of the nebula called the ‘Cygnus Wall’ I think it could work. An easier option in Cygnus with that telescope would be the Dumbbell Nebula (M27) since it’s significantly brighter and if you don’t have a modified camera, it still is very bright since it’s mostly green.

Hey there Nico! Amazing video as always! I am also planning the Cygnus Wall in North American Nebula with my 6 inch SCT. Do you think it is possible to shoot it without guiding with 1500mm focal lenght? Thanks!

Another excellent video, Nico. And thanks for sharing your suggestions for the Southern Hemisphere. Looking forward to capturing these wonders. Cheers.
