2022-05-05 04:47:12 +0000 UTCHey, first time on the Patreon, I’ve been catching some reactions/discussions on YouTube and thought I’d finally go for the full experience! I’m glad Maple really liked this one, it’s definitely still in my top 6 I’d say. I get why some people think it’s overrated, that it leans too heavily into the comedy element, but I think that’s what makes it great (that and Taika finally bringing the Jack Kirby love). I think the character of Thor, and his films, was in danger of becoming too bogged down in seriousness and being overdramatised, when all the other characters were getting to have more and more light-hearted moments. These films are essentially meant to be fun. Some of the Hela plot arc is not very strong, but it has so many great jokes, great character development for Thor and Loki and Hulk/Banner going forward, so many visually pleasing moments (the reintroduction of Immigrant Song near the end when Thor is Slo-mo bearing down on the warriors is one of the best moments from Phase 3, along with a lot in some upcoming ones you’ll be doing), and the fact Taika Waititi essentially got to make a Taika Waititi indie film masquerading as a marvel film is so cool. Maybe Maple should do a deep dive on his films, Hunt For The Wilderpeople especially is a great watch.
