Fun fact: One of the Ramones (don't remember exactly who) was a big fan of the Lone Gunmen characters. On his deathbed he only wished to watch The Lone Gunmen spinoff, and X Files episodes featuring The Lone Gunmen. It was said in the SpinOffs making of.
BTW, they weren't really aware of the cancellation of the spinoff, when they shot the finale episode. This X Files episode had to be done, because they ended the spinoff with a to be continued. They expected a second Lone Gunmen season. It wasn't even that the ratings were so bad, but in this period of time, Fox cancelled A LOT of shows after only one season. Fox didn't even want them to make this crossover, but the writers refused to write something else, and according to Vince Gilligan, Fox put pressure on them, to kill the characters off. But maybe this explains, why everything about this ep feels so forced. And I think the ep title "Jump the shark" is the writers self reflection on that. Even if the ep itself deals with sharks in some way. Even the writers weren't happy with the result, and even the fans who liked the spinoff, disliked this crossover. This episode has audio commentary on the blue ray disc, so there's a lot of background information.
However, of course the emotional impact and the connection with the characters is way different, if you have watched the spinoff before this episode.

I don't want to spoiler you about the spinoff series, but I have to say, the spin off is waaay better than this crossover episode. It feels kinda off, it's too convoluted, the tone is too dark, and even the characters Jimmy and Yves feel a bit out of character. It's still more an X File than an LGM episode. Jimmy and Yves are awesome btw., and another good reason to watch the spinoff. This episode was basicly part 2 of a twoparter, and you've never seen part one. And people definately liked the SpinOff, at least those who watched it. But no one really likes the crossover. The best thing about the crossover for me is, to see Jimmy and Yves on The X Files. BTW, I said in one comment, that this episode is skippable, if you haven't watched the spinoff. But it seems, others were louder than me. 😉 And I didn't want to spoiler, which episode of season 9 it is.

Always! And the skit was hilarious too.
Of course! I’m re-listening to it now, so I can get back to you later tonight. I hope the timestamps are the same, but I listened to it on Apple Podcasts for reference.

I actually just listened to the podcast recently! From what I remember, there’s only one major spoiler they discuss briefly. If you’d like, I can go back and send you the time stamps. It really is worth the listen!
The “moist in Vancouver,” is that the Jimmy Kimmel interview? 😂

BTW, for what it's worth, the season nine finale, or "original series finale", was actually aired in one piece. Meaning the final two episodes of season nine were originally aired right one after the other without any pause, sort of like a movie. IMO it would be awesome if you could post your reaction to it like that as well, in one piece, instead of doing part 1 and 2, even if it takes longer for you to post it. Just my two cents. :)

Enjoyable reaction to one of the worst episodes of the whole show.
