GENA - IRIS VAN HERPEN LOUVRE EXHIBIT AUDIO (EXCLUSIVE TO PATREON!)

My good friends

I'm incredibly grateful and honored to announce that my sound sculpture titled "GENA" is included as part of Iris Van Herpen's "Sculpting the Senses" exhibit in the MAD-PARIS wing of the Louvre. It is on display from now until the 28th of April!

My good friend and incredible sonic artist Salvador Breed used stems from my unreleased song "GENA" for the final section of the immersive 4D sound installation featured as part of the last section of the retrospective exhibit for the incredible Dutch fashion designer Iris Van Herpen. More about the exhibit here: https://madparis.fr/Iris-van-Herpen-Sculpting-the-Senses

Exclusive to Patreon members, I present to you the full high-quality audio of my generative piece "GENA" (named after my rescue greyhound of the same name that passed away 20 years ago).

I made this audio sculpture during the pandemic, quite early on. I was experimenting with generative max for live patches that only required one chord to be played at the top of the composition. This resulted in infinite midi on/off messages that not only triggered instruments but also fx parameters. I would leave these generative patches playing all day long for a couple of days.

Initially, I had the automation values lower to keep a more peaceful and spaced-out result. For this specific exhibit, I decided to guide the automation parameters to reflect a "bloom" in the middle of the piece that represented an accumulation of information and sound that represents the birth, life, and death of a cosmic flower.

There was a bit of automation involved that guided the intensity of chance, randomization, fx send values, etc, but for the most part, the notes that the instruments are playing are triggered generatively. This includes piano, marimba, wavetable synth, FM synth bass, dulcimer, alter ego (a GENIUS text-to-speech vst-i plugin that I highly recommend), exhale (dope sample-based choir plugin), arp2500 samples that I recorded with jimmy edgar at Willem Twee Studios in 's-Hertogenbosch Netherlands, and AI vocoded vocals in which the carrier signal was produced by processing multiple popular r&b acapella's that resulted in various iterations.

These iterations were additionally processed through constantly changing fx (there's a lot of Dedelus Delay as well as Michael Norris Blur fx going on

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed my rambling description of what you're now listening to LOL. It's quite a rambling audio so I think the description is appropriate. enjoy!

Hi Travis, In your last Q&A you mentioned wanting to fugg with Digitone whenever you had a chance. Have you ever looked into Fors plugins? One of the main people behind Digitone (Ess Mattisoson) left Elektron and started fors.fm - Fors Opal is the closest thing to Elektron in the plugin world but goes waaaaaaaay above and beyond in terms of sound design. The sound engines and sequencer come as separate MFL devices. Best, Kevin
