If they had struck Earth, the power of thousands of nuclear bombs would have flattened cities and killed millions. What if we spotted a 100-meter asteroid just two weeks before collision? Can humanity be saved?

2025-09-17 18:34:49 +0000 UTCSo in depth and interesting as usual <3 What do y'all think, am I being over sensitive or is it possible in the future to refer to the strength of the various things a little differently? Specifically the shorthand of Hiroshima [sized] bombs, using it to establish a reference point is extremely understandable and appreciated for describing how destructive an asteroid or anything we can send at it would be. After that referring to it using the phrase again in shorthand while discussing other details where the emotional context of Hiroshima isn't relevant, almost as a standard candle, feels like it minimizes the tragedy it was. Maybe after establishing it once it's understood that it is an atomic bomb, afterwards referring to it as an atomic bomb or X number of atomic bombs makes sense to me?
