Weekly Update 12.16.2019...

…I am back from my business trip and back to unpacking. I found my missing computer cords so I can finally get my work space set up today!!! It’s the kitchen table for now, but who cares?! I get to work on BLACK LABEL again (I hope I remember how to draw)!

So I was going to write this really long, detailed post telling you all about the drama that happened but it was stressing me out (the full story would have taken up an entire subreddit) so I’m just going to give you a brief overview…

…Back in February, I shared a story about a game of DnD where one of my housemates (we’ll call her “L”) got her character killed. She made some bad choices and the dice were not on her side. It happens. Live and learn. No big deal anyway since L had been talking about retiring that character so she could introduce a new character that she had been excited to play. Fast forward a couple months and L calls a housie meeting where she breaks down in tears informing us that she is really upset about how her character was murdered by the DM (my wife) and how living together is now awkward and uncomfortable and that the best solution is for us (my wife and I) to move out. L is part owner of the house, so that is what we were forced to do.

So yeah, me, my wife and our other housemate Mel, were forced to move out over a game of DnD. L allowed us to stay till the end of our lease, but it’s been a very uncomfortable six months.

I’ve spent this past week dealing with her nickel and diming us out of our security deposit, so it’s been a bit stressful. The good news is, while L has lost a lot of friends (at last count) eight friends out of this, my wife and I have gained several.

Unexpected side effect for L: Mel helped her get her current job and everyone there is a friend of Mel’s. None of them are friends of L anymore (if they ever were at all).

I like to keep things positive around here, and I don’t like complaining. I want this to be a place you guys can look forward to browsing through. Maybe in a few weeks when I hopefully get my deposit back, I’ll be relaxed enough to share the entire story. It is a loooooong story (I didn’t mention The Gardening Drama, The Kitchen Conundrum, or The Bacon Debacle). Until them, I’m just excited to get back to work.

Whew! What a year it’s been. It’s gonna be a kick ass week! Let’s finish the next page of BLACK LABEL, shall we? Have a great week!

Glad to hear!

If you *really* want roommate drama, get everyone to play Diplomacy.

Fritz Sands

Oh I’m feeling settled...and ready to make some comics!🎉

Stereoscope Comics

Ya. And up till now, I’d never experienced any roommate drama. Guess the universe was making up for lost time.

Stereoscope Comics

I remember that. Sounds about right. 😅

Stereoscope Comics

We considered that. I think it was a bit of a perfect storm. They get the house to themselves, they can be right about everything and can play the victims as they were wronged by a person that they thought was their friend. Pretty sure L is interested in two things: receiving admiration or receiving sympathy. Can’t think of anyone that admires her, so...

Stereoscope Comics

Okay wow, I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. You do you. Take however long you need in order to get things settled.

kou32

Damn -- sometimes roommate drama gets into the realm of the ridiculous.

Fritz Sands

Man that sounds like something out of one of those old Jack Chick Tract comics. The anti-D&D one.

hmgirlpopuri

So much drama over a D&D character. *facepalm* Another option is that this "L" was searching (poorly) for any bs reason to drive you two out of the house. Just my speculation at that point.

Fenix

Agreed. We always knew she was a bit of a snowflake, but we never saw this coming.

Stereoscope Comics

Man, that is awful! I fully admit I can get emotional about losing a character but I always keep it in the game. Ending a friendship over a game is just taking it too far On the bright side you are probably best not living with someone who sounds like they are less than entirely stable if they are going to take losing a character that seriously!

Michael

I finally figured out how to reply to a comment. Communal living is an arduous experiance that is often underestimated. It is also a process of trial and error (as you have experienced). I think I lived with ~24 guys during my 5 years of undergraduate. I'd say 6 of them were acceptable roommates and 1 was worthy of marriage. Please tell me the bacon was in a sealed container. The smell of putrid meat is no joke.

JerryChops

Thanks. Yeah, it was so weird and very uncomfortable.

Stereoscope Comics

Few things are worse than sharing a living space with someone you can't get along with. So sorry to hear it's been stressful...and I'm glad you found a new place where you'll all be happier.

Shrub Jump

We had a similar story called the Bacon Debacle.

Stereoscope Comics

So...no lesbians? ;) We had a similar experience with us trying to keep the fridge clean.

Stereoscope Comics

I'll give the short run of The Great Taco War of 2016. There were 6 people living in the same apartment. Someone left a taco in the fridge for a month (it was growing... things). Nobody admitted fault. Fingers were pointed, names were called, AXE bombs were thrown, and Oreo stashes were stolen. Three days later a classmate (non-resident) visited, opened the fridge, and exclaimed "oh hey, my taco". I was the RA and had to deal with all this shit. After the war was over, I forced everyone into bi-weekly fridge cleanouts in an effort to avoid further conflicts.

JerryChops

That sounds monstrous. So many questions. Was it a fight about tacos? Were tacos used as projectiles? Was it a lesbian thing or actual tacos?

Stereoscope Comics

Dude, you have no idea. Things only got worse since February.

Stereoscope Comics

I can't even conceive the all kinds of wrong in that. I'm really glad that your two managed to find a new place after all. Hope you are well too.

Raven-rj

Lmao, what? That's a shit reason to have to move, but honestly I guess it's a good thing that L flipped out when she did. She sounds like someone you probably would rather not live with anyways, who likely would have caused some other much worse problem(s) down the road.

dUc0N

Your post has reminded me of The Great Taco War of 2016. Fond(?) college memories.

JerryChops

Thanks! Hope to finish unpacking this week!

Stereoscope Comics

The new place is small, but it’s ours. Mel moved in with us as well, so there will be much art and comic sharing.

Stereoscope Comics

L was my wife’s friend for over 15 years. Because of that I figured they’d patch things up. Boy, was I wrong.

Stereoscope Comics

I know, right?! We’re out so that’s the important part.👍

Stereoscope Comics

Jeez, and I thought *my* tabletop group falling apart was bad. Glad you guys have found a new place!

Kalia Grey

Wow. It baffles me that someone with the responsibility of something like a mortgage can also be that blatantly immature. It is NOT that hard to just talk to someone about a problem you have with them. This goes beyond simple dnd table etiquette. I'm sorry you had to put up with that and the related aftermath. Hope you find better lodging soon.

Dawho555

I had problems with DnD groups but.... never at this magnitute. Lost two "friends" because of a DnD group quarrel. But I also have friends for more than 15 years and our friendship stays strong Those are my true friends

Raven-rj

Wow, WTF! The risks of a game of D&D, eh... Er, good luck!
