Weekly Update 06.01.2020...

…I hope you’re all safe and healthy.

We’ve got lots to look forward around here! My wife helped me with the base tones for the last page of Black Label and essentially saved me a good four to five hours of time (cell painting is a slow process, even on a computer). This frees up my schedule a bit and leaves me with a time gap while I wait for the base tones. So here’s how my new schedule is going to work…

1) Start the week with two page sketches instead of just one.

2) Start line art for the first page.

3) Once the first page has lines, hand it off to my wife so she can put in the base tones while I line the second page.

4) Tone the first page while my wife puts in the base tones for the second page.

5) Tone the second page.

6) Start posting two times a week!

That’s the dream! A tad ambitious, but more than workable. It’s going to take a while to get into the swing of it, but I think it will be worth it. Leaves me with more time for design work and rewards as well.

The next couple pages are going to be complicated as they will have a lot of fun and dynamic elements (i.e. two orcs), so I’m just going to be focusing on one BLACK LABEL page this week, along with a commission page that I’ve been working on.

I don’t know what exactly clicked for me this weekend, but I wrote over 5000 words of back story on Saturday (mostly loose script and plot points). I was diving deep into Meg’s past, trying to fill in some of the gaps and what I found really surprised me! We have new characters to meet, new locations to explore, new plots to unfold, and certain special someone that will be making her appearance much sooner than I had expected.

I’m really excited about this! Figuring out motivations and seeing how small choices can lead to unexpected consequences is one of my favorite things about writing. When the pieces fall into place there’s this wonderful, “oh my god,” moment that happens. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it is sweet!
